It isn't a matter of not beiing open to read his book....just do not have the time to these days...even the thread that kiki started on 'Nr Book Club reviews' i wrote down a number of books to read from readiing that thread but up to today, I have yet to buy them as school work is a very heavy load....but i am sure i will read his book one day...just not yet. He is a brillant man too...but i just do not think he is ready for the Presidency just yet...give him another eight years, and I will not only vote for the brother but also join his team...

I dunno if Obama will win the nomination, and frankly, I don't care too much. I am just impressed by how far USA has come as a nation. Iowa is a lily white state - 95percent. I have looked at their population stats - in some of those counties, there are maybe 2 black families. Most of the people of color there are students. Obama has accomplished the impossible. Unbelievable. And it shows the willingness of this generation to look beyond color and listen to ideas.
That is the real achievement in this matter.
@Samira's post:
I just shake my head at black people who want a black candidate to be "their candidate." Black people make up less than 20percent of the American population. How are you going to make a serious attempt at the white house by talking only about civil rights and welfare? Are those the only issues facing Americans (as a whole)?
Sidney, you are totally right. Real crabs in a dirty bucket.
Obama, go on soun ojare.
p.s Samira, I am not picking on you o, just commenting on the comment you posted by that african american individual wey no get too much sense.

I've always supported the Republicans, but this time Obama should win. I'm saying this purely because he's considered a black man (well mixed race). Call me racist, but its about time a black man became president of the US. If some former US presidents were allegedly members of the ku klux Klan, why shouldn't I support a black man to be president just because he's black?

[quote=samira;571715][quote=sidney;571703]I read hers as well.. Well accomplished, brilliant woman. I have mentioned it many times on this very NR, she was more politically accomplished than Bill, before he became Arkansas governor.

I mean, seriously how did you come to that conclusion? FYI, I have been interested in Clinton since her husband was the President of the USA,...as I know for a fact that she was the brains behind the Clinton adminstration!
I sincerely like her because she makes a great feminist icon. She is the epitome of the "you can have it all" woman in politics. Men have ruled and it is about time a woman also took it to the next level.
I have no problems with Obama. But I don't know if he'll be a good President of not. What exactly is his platform? What is his opinion on Israel?? Foregin policy? How is he going to handle Civil Rights? I know he's very bright, but what has he really done to show himself qualified for the office?? I'd vote for him, I don't have anything against that, but it seems like the last president hasn't done major changes. I want more than the Status Quo.

Because if you do, you'll be no different from the ignorant members of the Ku Klux Klan, past and present.
I am not saying don't back or support Obama, I am saying don't just do it because he is black, do it because of what he intends to bring to the table, because of his convictions, because of the possible changes a his administrations may bring.

Thank you my sister...
The writer of that quote fails to mention that Carol Mosley-Braun and Cynthia McKinney are simply not very impressive people and could never be mentioned with the likes of more accomplished lawmakers. And while I personally really, really, like Al Sharpton, he is part savant, part vigilante, part circus clown.
The writer also failed to mention that there were ( Adam Clayton Powell, Barbara Jordan, Andrew Young - to name a very few - ) and are ( Charles Rangel, Maxine Water, Sheila Jackson-Lee my favorite..) many, many African-America legislators that were well respected by both races and parties. And they were closer to Obama in continence, intellect and demeanor that they were to the people he mentioned....

I understand your point funmo as I am aware that you know the deal. I felt exactly as you said when i read the stuff that is being said from the African American website that i got the info from...although i am for Clinton...just reading what they wrote, it was so obvious that the only reason why they are not interested in voting for Obama is because they consider him to be part African and White! The only reason...which to me is very sad...Meanwhile on that very same website, they are quick to say that Africans do not like the African American and it is not the other way round...but Obama is the perfect example of exactly how they feel about us.
