The Future Awards is famous for balancing its serious side with strong entertainment content, and this year this is a strength it is determined to play off starting from the very top. Whilst a strong list of the award-winning superstars who will be performing at this year’s event will be unveiled in the New Year, the organizers can now reveal those who have been invited to host the event. Last year, the Awards set a new standard when it had five of Nigeria’s brightest young celebrities Dakore Egbuson, Wildchild, Segun Obe, Big Brother’s Ebuka and Ashionye anchor the event; this year it cuts down on the numbers but steps up on the glitz.
Two of the three anchors for the event are some of Nigeria’s brightest exports to Hollywood. One as an on-screen celebrity and the other building up a solid profile behind the cameras.
The first half, Raz Adoti, began his acting career in a major supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s epic, Amistad. He was part of “a distinguished cast assembled to chronicle a very important chapter in American history”. The ensemble included: Sir Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey.
He is co-producer on the new Fox Sports TV show titled Extra Time which is due to be aired Spring 2008, and will next be seen in the lead role of director Bill Duke’s eagerly anticipated, upcoming feature titled Cover. The Future Awards will be the first gig Adoti will commit to as he returns to the country in the New Year.
Kemi Adetiba on the other hand, was easily the brightest female TV personality in Nigeria before she left early this year for the prestigious New York Film Academy. Kemi was anchor of Temptation Nigeria, and Mnet’s Studio 53. However, Kemi left all of that in January at the height of her fame to learn skills behind the camera emerging at the end of the course a few weeks ago, as a director to reckon with.
The third host is a sensational Nigerian-based celebrity that has become something of a media phenomenon. Male or female? Hmm... Well, all the organizers will reveal is: this third anchor is being kept a secret, as well as who the anchor will be paired with to be unveiled to the guests on the day of the event, even as a strong team of script-writers and producers work tirelessly, crafting the drama the anchors will bring down on the house at the event. One thing is for sure, this year’s edition of the Awards is going to be off the hook.
