Ijaw youths are planning a revolution that may result in the kidnap of corrupt governors and other political leaders from the Niger Delta found to have mismanaged funds accruing to the masses from the derivation account in the region.
Former president of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), under whose regime the famous Kaiama Declaration was made in 1998, Dr. Felix Tuodolo, told Saturday Independent in an exclusive interview that corrupt governors from the region would longer more be allowed to enjoy their loot with their families.
Tuodolo, who is now the chairman of the Ijaw National Congress in the United Kingdom said there were ongoing collaborative efforts by Ijaw youths in Nigeria and those in the Diaspora towards monitoring the activities of the governors.
In fact, he said the kidnapping currently being done by those he called criminals and enemies of the Niger Delta struggle would be a child’s play when the revolution begins, adding that the youths would make a public announcement once any corrupt governor is to be kidnapped in the course of the coming revolution.
He said: "One of the greatest problems the Niger Delta people are having is that of good governance. Most leaders do not have the interest of the people whom they are governing at heart.
"They have been engaged in several forms of corruption. I tell you that we are crying for resource control so that we can pay our taxes, but the system has responded with 13 per cent. If this 13 per cent had been well used, the crisis in the Niger Delta would have reduced.
"I hope that the present governors of the Niger Delta will see sense and manage these resources for the people of the region. If they do so, there is some hope for the people."
According to him, "in no distant time, there will be a revolution, if the leadership does not implement good governance.
"Some of the little cases of kidnapping going on are part of the revolution that is coming because those carrying out those actions have always say they work and they don’t get paid. Others say they are hungry and don’t have jobs. The way to resolve it is to have good governance. I see revolution coming."
