Despite repeated assurances by his spokesperson that he is responding "well" to treatment in a German hospital in Wiesbaden, Umar Yar’adua’s prognosis does not have a better outlook as publicly announced. Saharareporters can confirm that plans to have him return to Nigeria today, Tuesday April 22, 2008 have been postponed.
Impeccable sources in Germany told Saharareporters that he (Yar’adua) has not been discharged as portrayed by the Federal government spokespersons on the matter.

Yar’adua, whose illness was recently revealed by Saharareporters as Churg Strauss Syndrome -a rare disease that features inflammation of blood vessels (also referred to as angiitis) in the lungs, skin, nerves, and abdomen- has been told by German doctors to stay back in Germany until his condition improves or risk possible organ failure during the flight back to Nigeria. The ailing 'president' of Nigeria spent four days in intensive care last week during which his wife, Turai was denied access to him.

Our source said that contrary to the impression given to the Nigerian public that Yar’adua was suffering from “Allergic Reactions” from malaria drugs, it was his wife who suffers from anti-malaria drug reaction. Yar’adua came down with debilitating regression of lungs and kidney functioning two weeks ago after Juma'at prayers in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city and seat of the presidency.

Worried that the continued stay of Yar’adua in Germany will create serious power vacuum that could lead to a power tussle, Nigerian government officials are arranging to have him flown back to Abuja on an air ambulance accompanied by German doctors on Thursday April 24 2008.

Yar'adua suffers from the Churg Strauss Syndrome. It was earlier misdiagnosed by a team of Nigerian doctors led by Dr. Salisu Barau Banye. For a long period of time he was treated for symptoms of the syndrome, especially Asthma.

A medical journal stated that, "Churg-Strauss syndrome has been reported to be associated with certain asthma medications, called leukotriene modifiers, whether they actually cause the disease or whether the patients that take them have more severe asthma that lends a tendency toward the development of Churg-Strauss is not yet clear."
