Red face Lugard Founder of Nigeria speech 1926

Fredrick Lugard speech (1926)
Fredrick Lugard is the colonial ruler, first Attorney General, founder of Nigeria Nation. He merges North and south together in 1914. “Nigeria” was name given by his wife Victoria.
If bellow speech is the mindset of Fredrick lugard, a European, suppose constructor of present day Nigeria, then, what could we have expected and do hope for in the future?
Read:
By F. D. Luggard (An extract)

""In character and temperament" wrote Lord Lugard, "the
typical African of this race-type is a happy,
thriftless, excitable person. Lacking in self control,
discipline, and foresight. Naturally courageous, and
naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with
little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving
weapons as an oriental loves jewelry. His thoughts are
concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment,
and he suffers little from the apprehension for the
future or grief for the past
. His mind is far nearer to
the animal world than that of the European or
Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals placidity
and want of desire to rise beyond the State he has
reached. Through the ages the African appears to have
evolved no organised religious creed, and though some
tribes appear to believe in a deity, the religious sense
seldom rises above pantheistic animalism and seems more
often to take the form of a vague dread of the
supernatural"

He lacks the power of organisation, and is
conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of
men or business. He loves the display of power, but
fails to realise its responsibility ....he will work
hard with a less incentive than most races.
He has the
encourage of the fighting animal -an instinct rather than
a moral virtue...... In brief, the virtues and defects
of this race-type are those of attractive children,
whose confidence when it is won is given ungrudgingly as
to an older and wiser superior and without
envy.......Perhaps the two traits which have impressed me as
those most characteristic of the African native are his
lack of apprehension and his ability to visualize the
future"
Pg 70 of The Dual Mandate by F.D.Lugard 1926

actually... if anything, it often makes me feel sad about the state of Nigerian education when i think about how back in primary school they taught us about this racist piece of shit as if he was some kind of hero.

they didn't say WORD ONE about the slave trade or the excesses of colonialism in history class, but they trained us to look at this asshole and his dumb cow of a wife ("land of the black people"? WTF bitch?) like they were gods.

*shakes head*

Another comment/point of view

Quote:
Absolute rubbish then and now, Lord Lugard's; does any part sound familiar to anyone? If this was the mind-set of someone like Lord Lugard who was said to have brought about the amalgamation of Nigeria for more of Her Royal Majesty's economic benefits than the actual well-being of the indigenous Ethnic Nations then, I wondered why Nigeria is still together as a "united" nation today! Are there any polar characteristics to attract and unite us together from Lord Lugard's descriptions, then and now? Someone needed to examine clinically Lord Lugard's frontal and temporal lobes of the brain just before and immediately after he wrote these. Sometimes, these Europeans got served and intoxicated by the very rum and tobacco they imported to drug the Africans in order to chain them away as slaves! Be that as it might, let all Africans review their past and present, develop and have firm beliefs in themselves and conquer the European whose empires are fast dwindling to nothingness since after their last "Pilgrim Voyage" to the Americas. There are no more places in the World for them to "discover"; it's left for others to discover them today.
