The last may not have been heard on the reported duping of a former First Lady of the sum of two hundred thousand pounds (£200, 000.00) about 50 million naira by her 'trusted aide' as security operatives in the United Kingdom (UK) are said to be combing the nooks and crannies of London for a possible clue to the identity of the embattled former First Lady.
Sunday Tribune recently gathered from a source in London that that was not the first time the former First Lady's aide would be saddled with such a responsibility. “I can't understand why she decided this time around to play a fast one on her boss, because over the years she had been doing that job for the woman. But from what I learnt, the former aide may have been dissatisfied with the way she had been treated by the family of the former governor.”
"The decision of the 'trusted aide' to abscond with the mind boggling amount of money, it was gathered, was as a result of the failure of the former First Lady and her husband to 'settle' her as promised before they left office in May, 2007.
Last Tuesday's episode was, therefore, the much expected avenue for the former aide to take her own share of the loot of the former governor" the source disclosed.
As at press time, Ashmore, a high brow city in the heart of London, where the newly acquired property of the former First lady is situated, was said to be under surveillance by the Metropolitan Police. Sunday Tribune reliably gathered from a source in London that,” immediately after the development was made public by the media, security operatives in the UK commenced the collation of the names of those who recently acquired property in the area, with serious emphasis on the origin, date and year of acquisition and nationality of the owners of those property.”
It was also gathered that because of the recent development, a stop had been ordered on the work site of the proposed world class boutique planned by the former First Lady along Edgware road, a business district in London, largely populated by Nigerians.
There are conflicting reports on who ordered the stoppage. Some believed the stop order came from the UK authority while others were of the opinion that the embattled former First Lady could have ordered it because of 'lack of funds'.
Sunday Tribune also learnt that shortly after the former First Lady's aide reportedly absconded with the money, the embattled former First Lady boarded the British Airways airline to the United States of America (USA) on Thursday with the plan to arrive Nigeria from the USA to commence the search for the former aide. The decision to return to Nigeria from the USA, it was learnt, was a kind of decoy to prevent her from the prying eyes of the nation's security operatives who are said to be looking for any former First Lady who would be returning to the country from the UK.
She is said to have commenced secret security search for the absconded aide using the vast security networks of her husband in the state put in place while he was in office as the state governor.
Security source confided in Sunday Tribune that, " the Metropolitan Police was not aware of the development because of the concealment of the identity of the former First Lady by the media report.
But that is not to say that they are not interested in the matter. In fact, they have more than a passing interest in the matter because of the personality involved. Since the said money did not arrive London there is practically nothing they can do at the moment. But they are certainly keeping tabs on the issue."
It was further learnt that the husband of the former First Lady, who is currently being dragged before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on alleged corrupt practices while in office as the governor of the state has seriously warned his wife on the dangers inherent in having his identity revealed because of the grave consequence it could have on his current ordeal at the hands of the anti-corruption body.
He was said to have told his wife to "keep me out of this mess" and to ensure that the ugly incident was not in any way linked to him.
It will be recalled that our sister paper had last Tuesday reported the duping of a former First Lady from the southern part of the country of the sum of £200,000.00 by her aide.
