No,i haven't,and i am ashamed of it.It is nothing to beat my chest about, and that is why this news leaves me absolutely cold. This news is nothing but an empty "feel good" news for us nigerians to soothe our insecure and battered egos, because we are too well aware that as a collective,we are a huge huge failure.
But like you said,it is only my own opinion. The only comfort i have is that i am definitely not alone in nigerians who are negating their duties to their fatherland.

I guess Nigeria as a nation finds itself in such a hellhole because it does not have too many citizens who place th collective over the personal.
Everybody is engrossed with the personal, and none is with the collective. No people can build a vibrant nation by placing the personal achievements over the collective.IMHO.

My dear.. I understand the whole concept of collective achievements but you have to achieve first before you can collect others to push for something.. Don't confuse selfishness with personal achievement... Believe me, I work in the non-profit world both personally and my day-time job and my position required me to have a certain degree and then that helps me to think above and beyond to achieve the mission of the non-profit I work for..
If you dont lay a solid foundation, then all your collective efforts will be wasted!!! A solid foundation requires going to school to learn certain skills and this is a personal thing you have to do because you have to decide what major you want to do that will help you.. then when you become comfortable and start to accomplish the goals and objectives you set in life, then you can have an open mind to help others.. My dear, you have to help yourself first before you start carrying another person's yawa!

Great points Oga Vince and the lovely Ayesha!! You both are making excellent arguments...
It would be the best to solidify yourself without forgetting the collective.

Thank you for your answer. Please don't think others who have achieved degrees in the United States are not trying too. We are trying but it really is not that easy. However, we will continue to try.

well, Vince is making his comments based on the emotions he feels over the priviledges he has received and his lack of responsibility towards using it for others. That is why he is cold towards the article right?? It is his personal opinion.
The baby should not go out with the bath water. We could do more for our community but it is also wonderful to acquire individual knowledge, to instill education and drive in our children and to attend greatness in our adopted land or in my case my motherland.
Afterall would it make us feel better to walk around with out tails under our legs, be stuck on welfare and do nothing as we moan and groan our beloved country?
NO - afterall the Jews that are here are making it and yet have not gone back neccessarily to build their beloved Isreal or fight for the peace of Jerusalem. In fact many have not even visited the holy land.
I can't speak for other's experiences but I have seen lots of Nigerians giving back. They might not live there but at least they are helping their families, taking short term assignments etc. If I am called to teach a short lesson on an aspect of filmmaking I'll go. That's giving back.
I am really proud of Nigeria and I am not romanticizing the issues. I have been there in the lions den so to speak. I have dealt with the dishonesty and chaos, even to the extent of being robbed at gunpoint but I have also seen something beautiful. I have seen and worked with hardworking, faithful and honest people. And you know what because Nigerian seen how much I am proud of them and believe in them, I have had even the brash finally listen and respect me.

Yes, "Bubba" from Texas created Universities. I guess he was doing this in between lynching black people and stealing Mexicans' land.
You are one of the black people who think he has been saved by the "white man". How sad for you. You are one of the "brainwashed" black people who still thinks "White" equates "God". Black people, including Nigerians, have added nothing to society, right?
Yes, please go serve your white master. I am sure the cotton field is calling you.

Your utterance goes to show that education could equate knowledge but not necessarily intelligence.
You make comments, like this and you wonder why I think a lot of college graduates wasted 4 years of their life just to feel among and keep up with the jones'?
Education isn't wisdom!

Guys ,guys! There is absolutely no need to get heated up to the point of resorting to mudthrowing at each other. We can debate this in an amiable fashion.

Knowledge is good, yes, but using it positively to help build our own motherland to a high exalted status amongst developed nations is way better, and only by that will we be judged.Anything else is self delusion and self agrandisement.
Every time we introduce ourselves as nigerians, the image of a decaying country that is Nigeria jumps into people's minds. So what is the use of all these degrees if this is all we can project in people's minds.People with degrees, but with wasted enlightenment.
The news that is way better than this one would be, NIGERIA HAS NOW ACHIEVED A MODERN,DEVELOPED, INDUSTRIALIZED NATION STATUS.Now wouldn't that be something.

Na wa Vince! Without your college degree, you probably won't be sitting in front of a computer at a job, writing big vocabulary on this forum, but in your world that's useless.
Tell me, how can you help others if you can't help yourself?
