I was listening to NPR on wednesday and they had a program about obama accepting private funds for his campaign, apparently he'd said that he would not, and all these callers are so upset with him because they said he is breaking a promise, that he is showing his true colours...

now me? i haven't really been interested in politics in the past, and i'm not sure what the whole hoopla is.

does anyone know?
can you explain to me what is going on?

and does it look bad that he broke his promise and is going to accept private funds? does it say anything about him?

Early in his campaign he said he would accept tax payer funded campaign fund of $85 million. After the republican elected McCain, Obama's campaign camp researched McCain backers and funds, and they found that McCain can't raise enough money to go head to head with Obama.

So they began digging further what option McCain might have or who might fund him. What they found were several groups, mainly independent group that are ready to spend billions of dollars on behave of McCain, and there is no legal limit on how much this groups can spend toward electing McCain.

With this outcome, accepting public funds will only put Barack Obama in a disadvantage, so he went back on his word that he will accept public financed campaign fund. We all know that Obama is capable to raise all the money he would ever need. So, there you have it.

i was trying to listen hard to the program and they didn't explain it this way.

I hope that obama will make a statement and explain it the way you have because most of the callers did not understand this way, all they knew was "Obama went back on his word and this shows you the kind of president he will be"

i don't think they asked the WHY of why he did it.

Is not hard to make people see the truth, but is harder if that person just don't want to see the truth. I am an independent voter, but Obama was able to convince me to vote for him. I do remain an independent though, but the truth wasn't hard for me to see.
