How would you react to the clean bill given to Abacha by the three former Heads of State: Babangida, Buhari and Abubakar? They said he didn't steal in office?
Well, this is a very interesting development. One, we should look at the plurality between Babangida and Buhari. These are people that are strange bedfellows. They are people of different opinions, different upbringing and different ideologies. Now one is said to be corrupt to the core, and the other one is said to be strict and rigid. Then one should ask the question, why did they come together to declare unanimously, that Abacha never stole any money? And that it was just a misinformation. Now I will go to the root of the matter. Abacha was an officer under General Babangida when he was Head of State. He was his Chief of Army Staff and also Chief of Defence Staff. Babangida was also a Chief of Army Staff under General Buhari. And also Buhari was removed by the same Babangida for one reason or the other, which we all know due to corruption. We must not forget there was an election, the first democratic election that was said to be free and fair, that was the Abiola election on June 12 1993. And we know that those that were behind the annulment of that election, were Babangida, number one; Abdulsalami Abubakar, number two; Obasanjo as well; because he never wanted a Yoruba man like him to come and rule the country. That was it. They were part and parcel of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election. Secondly, when Abacha became Head of State, they instigated him to arrest this people because of the noise they were making about the June 12 election. And Abacha arrested Abiola, including General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, who also formed his political party. Babangida instructed Abacha to arrest Yar'Adua and that was what he did and he kept them in jail. But what happened when they were in jail, the two of them? They mysteriously died in prison.
We must also not forget that it was the same Abacha who appointed Buhari as the chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) and Buhari saved for this country a foreign reserve, the sum of over 12 billion dollars. And Obasanjo when he came to power, after the demise of Abacha, he struck out that programme called PTF. Let's not forget the nine months General Abdulsalami spent in power, was the period nine billion dollars out of the 12 billion dollars that was saved in foreign account was embezzled. Is in the papers, is not a hidden issue. Now the problem then arises; the three of them are part and parcel, and insiders of the annulment of the June 12 presidential election. Abdulsalami was the Chief of Defence Staff under General Sani Abacha when Abiola was arrested and Yar'Adua was arrested and kept in prison. The issue now remains, who will let the cat out of the bag?
All of them have something to hide; the three of them were responsible for the annulment of the June 12 election and the death of Abiola, Yar'Adua and Abacha. And the only way to save face is to unanimously go to Kano and offer a condolence statement, dissociating themselves from the death of the husband of that woman; dissociating themselves from the death of Yar'Adua, and dissociating themselves from the annulment of June 12. That was one side of it. The other side is to spite General Obasanjo for having rigged an election and installed Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on power. Now they are spiting him to say that all well, since you brought this man in power, we are now together in force. Lets go back to Sani Abacha whom the same Obasanjo said he stole so much money; and the same Abdulsalami Abubakar who said he recovered so much money from Swiss Bank and today he is negating from his previous statement. All this is done to spite Obasanjo on the other side of the issue. Not because they want to come together, because they agreed in principle of political ideology. No. They are of different ideological leanings. And this is exactly what is happening to them. And one of the reasons why the three of them will never want to see Major Hamza Al-Mustapha come out of prison because he was there when all the happenings were taking place, and he is the only witness alive today that can testify to the death of Abacha, Yar'Adua and Abiola as well as the money stolen or not stolen. Al-Mustapha as the Chief Security Officer is the only one who knows the role each one of them played and that is why they can never let him out of prison.
