gbam, exactly the same question i asked a while back, (i don't have strenght to go and dig it up the thread) but when i saw that horrible picture of his grandma holding a chicken in her arms and grinning for all she was worth, and heard a news report that there are always people and "journalists" in his grandmother's house...i raised the question of security...are they going to provide security for his family back in Kenya so that no stories will be told later on?

Er, no... If he wants to protect her, he needs to get her here in the states. Once she lives outside of the US, she cannot be protected. She is not considered "immediate" family. Niether grandmother is...

I guess American constitution didnt take into cognisance that there might come a time in this lifetime that their President could have a relation from another continent....hmmmmmmm <scratching head> do I smell some constitutional amendments? As per who and who can enter white house as staff now? And if African dishes can be introduced into the Menu? And say Kenya goes to war, would the President be obliged to support Kenya against any and all odds, even if for personal reasons? (family still there?P)

She is not an American citizen. It is not the constitution but the law. I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with.

Being a blood relative, they can surely issue her a permanent residance here in the states, but they cannot, legally or otherwise, send US secret service to Kenya to protect her.

Yeah the rules are pretty strict. And imagine what the fallout would be if for Obama, they tried to protect his Kenyan grandmother, whom he has only seen once, all the way in Kenya?! There is no precedence for that type of action. None.
