Post 2020 Summer Olympics

The 2020 Summer Olympics (officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad) is a major international sports and cultural festival to be celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee has yet to begin the selection process. A host city is expected to be announced in mid-2013.

Potential bids

Africa
South Africa Prominent IOC members including Dick Pound have suggested that the organization should give the Games to an African nation. The most likely country to hold the Olympics on this continent is South Africa. There are two strong candidates:

Cape Town
After being eliminated during the fourth round of the 2004 Olympic race, Cape Town may also bid for the 2020 Olympics, supported by the Cape Chamber of Commerce. After the announcement of the host for the 2004 Summer Olympics, IOC head Jacques Rogge said that he wanted to give the games to Cape Town, and told them to keep trying.[citation needed]. The 2010 FIFA World Cup could work in Cape Town's advantage, since it would provide major upgrade of sports, transport and other infrastructure.

Durban
In April 2008, Durban was announced by the IOC as a candidate city for the 123rd IOC Session|2011 to the idea of hosting the Olympic Games. Durban's Kings Park Sporting Precinct will be able to host 42 Olympic Sporting codes within one area. Durban's bid may be strengthened by Durbanite Sam Ramsamy, a high profile member of the IOC.

Asia

Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Middle Eastern city was poised to make a bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics but did not. It is expected that the city will bid for 2020.

Doha, Qatar
The IOC caused controversy when it rejected Doha's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics when fellow applicant city Rio de Janeiro was accepted, even though the Brazilian city had scored lower on the IOC's evaluation of bids. Whilst Doha bid organisers accused the IOC of 'closing the door on the Arab World', the IOC cited technical reasons for its rejection of the bid. With such minor issues barring the way (the IOC disaproved of Doha's insistence of holding the games in October), the bid team could easily resolve its problems, and it is thought that the Qatari capital will try again.

Delhi, India
Being very confident of holding a successful Commonwealth Games in 2010, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has confirmed that "Delhi will bid for the 2020 Olympics." The IOA had decided to bid for the 2016 games but after a failed attempt to host the 2014 Asian Games it will now bid for the 2020 games, officials confirmed. One advantage in India's favour is that South Asia is one of the regions of the world in which an Olympic games has never been held. Other international sporting events that will be held in India include the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the 4th World Military Games 2007 and the soon to be announced F1 Delhi Grand Prix in 2009/2010. Both London and Sydney have offered support to back a Delhi bid.

Bangkok, Thailand
The Thai capital, Bangkok, had originally expressed interest for bidding for the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, but instead decided to bid for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. Bangkok made the shortlist, but was eliminated before the final round. Bangkok may now mull a 2020 bid. Bangkok also bid for the 2008 Summer Olympics, but was not selected as a candidate city. It had hosted the 2007 Summer Universiade.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Malaysia expects to be considered a developed nation by the year 2020, as expressed in Wawasan 2020. There is slight expectation from the public for the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to host the Summer Olympics to mark Wawasan 2020. With the success of the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpur had decided to bid for the 2008 Games but it did not succeed in becoming a candidate on the shortlist, nor did it make the shortlist in its bid for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics.

Busan, South Korea
With the success of the 2002 Asian Games held in Busan, the city's mayor announced on November 14, 2005 to the Korean news agency Yonhap that they were planning to bid for the 2020 Olympic games. The official bid was made during the 17th APEC forum held on November 18 and 19 in Busan. However, its bid in 2020 may be jeopardized if Pyeongchang wins its third bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, after losing bids for 2010 and 2014. South Korean capital Seoul hosted the games in 1988.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
The largest city in Vietnam has expressed interest in a bid for a future Olympics as outlined in the Thu Thiem Urban Planning Document. It is highly unlikely the IOC would award the Olympics to another Asian country since Beijing would host in 2008.

Europe

Baku, Azerbaijan
The Azerbaijani capital bid for the 2016 edition of the games, but failed to make the shortlist and gain candidature status. Following the city's elimination, a government sports official vowed to bid again, stating his belief that Baku will be the next host city. Baku came last on the evaluation of the 2016 bids, with a score of 4.3. The main reasons for Baku's poor rating were the city's poor infrastructure and concerns over the budget of the proposed games.

Budapest, Hungary
Budapest is considering to bid for Hungary's first Summer Olympic Games. Hungary previously bid for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, with Debrecen, but the city failed to make the candidature shortlist. Originally Budapest was chosen to host the 1920 Summer Olympics, but due to World War I the organizing was handed over to Antwerp, Belgium.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen is considering to bid for Denmark's first Olympics. A report by Rambøll Management, commisioned by the Ministry for Sports and Culture, recommended the bid on the basis of economic analysis, and suggested the 2020 games, as they considered it to be the most likely year for a European city to win the bid. Copenhagen already has excellent infrastructure and only minor upgrades would be necessary.

The Danish government has set up an organisation, Sport Event Denmark, in order to attract major sports events, something that might increase the odds of the bid. Denmark may be attempting to hold the World Championship in table tennis in 2010, World Cycling Championship in 2011 and European Championships in Athletics in 2018. Copenhagen is scheduled to host the International Olympic Committee's 13th Olympic Congress in 2009 that will determine the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Hamburg, Germany
The Hamburg sports league (HSB) met with the German Olympic sports league to present an application at a meeting in December 2007. The HSB president claims his city is the most compact and has the best chance to host the Olympics. However, Munich is mounting a bid for the 2018 Winter Games bid, which will supersede a 2020 Summer games bid, and most likely push a Hamburg bid back to at least 2030.

Istanbul, Turkey
Istanbul will apply for hosting the 2020 Olympic Games. Istanbul previously applied for hosting the games in 4 consecutive times but did not apply for 2016 Olympic Games.

Marseille, France
Marseille,France is a potential city for a bid for 2020 summer olympics, the city of Marseille would prepare a bid for this summer olympics but the source is not official

Prague, Czech Republic
Prague had launched a bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics but failed to reach the candidature phase, coming second last in the evaluation of applicant cities. Bid organizers had acknowledged that it was a prepatory bid, in order to gain experience, and indeed expressed the city's intention to bid for the 2020 games. Its estimated cost for preparations for an Olympic bid, including a proposal to connect the metro system to sports centres and to enlarge an airport, would be USD$9.1 billion. Also, most of the sport grounds must be built.

Porto, Portugal
There is currently an unofficial website of Porto 2020.

Rome, Italy
After losing its 2004 bid to Athens, Rome will attempt to present another bid for the 2020 Olympics. Gianni Alemanno, mayor of Rome, will be supporting a Rome 2020 bid. Following the win of Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics, an Italian bid has been confirmed from prospects of the Olympic Games returning to Europe again. Rome did host the 1960 Summer Olympics.

St. Petersburg, Russia
Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, is considering bidding for the 2020 Summer Olympics. City officials have confirmed that they are preparing to develop the city's infrastructure to strengthen their bid. However, as Russia won the right to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, this may play a factor in the IOC's decision. The last time Russia hosted a Summer Games was the 1980 Summer Olympics.

North America
If Chicago fails to win the 2016 Summer Olympics bid, by 2020, it would have been 24 years since a summer Olympics were held in North America, strengthening a bid from that continent. The last time the Games were in the Americas was the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, although the Winter Olympics will have been held there twice in the meanwhile.

Several cities in the United States of America are either considering a bid or expected to bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The United States Olympic Committee however, only sponsors one official bid to the International Olympic Committee. Although any city can technically make their own bid directly to the I.O.C. as long as they cover their own bid expenses.

Birmingham, Alabama
In June 2008, Birmingham mayor Larry Langford, expressed interest in hosting the 2020 summer Olympic games. Birmingham is currently in the development stages of building a new multiple purpose athletic dome facility comparable to the Georgia Dome and Louisiana Superdome. It is also thought a new dome would help Birmingham in an Olympic host city bid.

Boston, Massachusetts
Boston is conducting feasibility studies for the greater New England region.

Houston, Texas
Expected to replace Chicago as the United States' third most populous city by 2020, and having been spurned by the USOC for the 2012 and 2016 summer games, Houston is expected to emerge as a possible contender.

Detroit, Michigan
Detroit has made the Summer Olympic Games final bidding election more often than any other ultimately unsuccessful bid city, seven times including 1964 and 1968, when they placed second. If accepted as the USA candidate by USOC, this would be their eighth bid. Potentially, they may pursue a "joint bid" with Windsor, Ontario.

Eugene, Oregon
Eugene is consider a potential host city for 2020 after a strong showing in hosting the 2008 track and field Olympic Trial and announced upgrades to the University of Oregon's athletic facilities.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota
Legislation has been introduced in the Minnesota Legislature to create a task force to explore a 2020 Olympic bid for the Twin Cities. Minneapolis' past Olympic bid history included unsuccessful bids in 1932, 1948, 1952 (when the city finished second to Helsinki to host the Summer games), and 1956. The city also finished second to Atlanta as the U.S. bid city for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Joseph M. Torsella, head of Philadelphia Sports Congress, has stated he is interested in hosting the 2020 or 2024 Olympic Games in an interview in the local Philadelphia Daily News. The city was in the running in the early stages of the USOC nomination for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Like Minneapolis, Philadelphia did bid for the Summer Olympics twice, but either failed to get a single vote or only got one vote.

Monterrey, Mexico
Monterrey is considering a 2020 Summer Olympic bid, according to Felipe Muñoz, President of the Mexican Olympic Committee. The bid also has the support of several members of the Mexican Congress. There is a project for the construction of the "Monterrey International Stadium", which will have a capacity for 75,000 spectators and its construction is planned to end in 2011. Should Monterrey succeed, it will be Mexico's second occasion as host and more than 50 years after Mexico City hosted the 1968 games.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada
On July 10, 2007 it was revealed that the Canadian Olympic Committee had begun work on a potential bid for the 2020 or 2024 games for Toronto, the capital of Ontario and largest city in Canada. This would be Toronto's third bid for the summer Olympic games, after unsuccessful bids for the 1996 and 2008 games. The Canadian city of Vancouver will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. The only Canadian city to host the summer games was Montréal in 1976.

South America

Buenos Aires, Argentina
In 2006, representatives of the Argentinian government met with Jacques Rogge to state Argentina's wish to bid for an Olympics. Whilst the city of Buenos Aries, the most likely Argentine candidate, did not bid for the 2016 games, there is much speculation over a possible 2020 or 2024 bid. For the 1956 Summer Olympics, the city was beat by Melbourne by a single vote.

Lima, Peru
President of the Peruvian Institute for Sports, Arturo Woodman, said Peru would try to bid for the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Oceania
Australia Australia previously hosted the 1956 Summer Games in Melbourne and the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney. Only one city from each country is allowed to bid for a specific Olympiad.

Melbourne
Australia's second largest city, Melbourne is considering a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games; if this bid fails Melbourne would seriously consider a bid for 2024 or 2028. Ron Walker indicated on the night that Melbourne won the 2006 Commonwealth Games that it would bid for the 2020 Olympics. There is currently an unofficial website of Melbourne 2020 which has a petition to lobby the Victorian and Australian Governments. Melbourne also host other major events annually including the Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix.

Brisbane
The subtropical city of Brisbane would seriously consider bidding for the Olympic Games in 2020 or 2024, former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has said. His announcement came after IOC President Jacques Rogge said the IOC would love to see a bid from Brisbane in the future. In 1985, Brisbane bid, but was not chosen, to host the 1992 Summer Olympics

It's obvious you're in love with me, so I'll take this time to elaborate on a few things.

Your dislike for me began the moment I realized an arcade existed within this forum and I started taking down high scores! Do have a clue of how long I've been playing video games? I can honestly say, "No One Is Better Than Me" within the arcade on this forum...not even The Maverick.

So, is this really about the all fonts, sizes, and colors that are a reflection of my individual style, or the fact that I've made such an impact in such a short amount of time?

"TO BE CONTINUED..."
