Obama: EFCC Detains Okereke-Onyiuke
The Director-General Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE), Prof. Ndidi Okereke-Onyiuke, was yesterday quizzed and detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over her role in the fundraising saga for the US Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate Barrack Obama. The amount realised is believed to have surpassed N99 million.
Details of her interrogation by the EFCC were sketchy last night but sources said owing to the extensive quizzing, she was going to spend the night at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Abuja. She had been invited by the Commission following the international attention she had drawn with her controversial fundraiser.
But speaking to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) yesterday, she said the money raised from the gala event, at which each table was charged N2 million, was never meant for his campaign.
She said: “This year, a newspaper put on a concert where tables cost N10 million and no-one blinked an eye then, why should they now?”

After reading the full story and from this woman statements, i thing there is a reason to be suspicious of her.
Just listen to this statement.
Quote:
“We never said we were going to donate money for the campaign,” she said.
“We paid for the hall and the entertainers and the surplus we said would be spent on advertisements aimed at persuading Nigerians to tell their relatives in America to register to vote.
“There is not one Nigerian who doesn't have a relative or friend in America. Our aim was to encourage those people to tell their family who have the right to vote in America to vote for Obama,” she told the BBC website yesterday.
|
What a nonsensical statement. You collect 99-million in your pockets, and you want to encourage Nigerians living in U.S. to vote for Obama. From your stock exchange office?
I use to think that the involvement of women in Nigeria administration, will do us a lot better, but people like Okereke and Ekaete tend to be giving people more excuse to marginalize women in government.
But thank God for Women like Prof. Dora Akunyili of (NAFDAC) and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala ( Former Finance minister) who have shown us that that Nigeria have women of notable leadership qualities.

This is the part that gets me. One would think that she would have at least done her research and found out who exactly is eligible to donate to an AMERICAN presidency candidate's fund. She not 5, she's not 15, she's not even 25. It's worrisome.
2: She then comes up with 'the funds were for adverts to persuade Nigerians to persuade their relatives to vote'. Come again? Was she also going to buy them phonecards?
3: She says there's not one Nigerian without a relative in the States. At this point, I finally accepted it. We don crase patapata.

I used to have a lot of respect for this woman until i read this. And to think they showed the rubbish event on Bisi Olatilo show over the w'kend. Her reason for the event just sounds cunny and annoying to me.

Nigerian politicians - always looking for a way to make a buck and having their priorities messed up. What business does Nigeria have at this point with American elections?
We want to be relevant but we fail to realize that relevance is bestowed on you when you do the neccessary little things well.

I don't think it was a smart move either but was she really trying to 419 them? I think she thought she could make a name for herself by doing it. Imagine raising millions for the president of the USA and your name attached to it. I think she was just too ambitious.
