The sad part is that the our oil and other resources we boast about is drained daily and managed poorly to overflow the pockets of some people in top positions.

May, you can keep reminding us of the shortcomings of Nigeria and how it does not rank up to the world standards but maybe you are comparing it with some top countries. How about we compare the corruption with some 3rd world countries like in Asia (the Chinese might call it Guanxi but its still bribe). Nigeria might be the 3rd corrupt country in the world after Bangladesh and Haiti do we deserve the right to be given 4th world status due to our level of corruption. Nigeria is neither the poorest country in the world.

Nigeria is facing the same problems just like many 3rd world countries where it is run by dictators with network of cronies where elections are bought, sold and coerced and our money including loans are not used to build the countries but to build power bases (loyal cronies). We might not be progressing as we want to but that doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t in the near future. Being positive about this great country of our might help

Wouldnt be a bad idea if you expand more on the criterias for world status classification.
You know what Austnne, I dont have anything more to add. You've said it all. Most people in Naija are welcoming the debt cancellations with all the conditions, they are like 'ah paris club wants to improve Nigeria, they are bringing positive change' and i'm sure these europeans could care less about Nigeria, all they are out to do is make a buck, so when the introduce thier economic policy reforms, they'll opening doors for thier own people to come and do business here at little or no cost to them. Then for instance, flood our markets with imported goods and all that. And where would that leave our own manufacturers? I mean i'm no economist but isnt it obvious?

Why do we keep deluding ourselves that the 'oyibos' are going to come and reform or rebuild our continent? The only people who can only transform Africa are africans themselves.

Most of the big companies in England are owned by foreign nationale eg Harrolds,Tesco, Marks and Spencer, J Sainsburys, Selfridges,Next,Morgan Stanley with exception to some banks, health and other government related services. Foreigners setting up companies in other countries actually create employments, improve social infrastructures (because an average investor would definitely want to develop any area they are situated).
I see foreigners coming to our dearest country as a plus. I remember when YAMAHA was in Nigeria lots of people had dealership and enough money was flowing in into Dealers pocket and people were living well.
I will be happy to see big companies coming to Nigeria because that s part of the criteria development is judged by.

You have said it all and for some NIGERIANS who are hard-liners and think they are more patriotic than other NIGERIANS should get themselves more informed about how things function properly ( economy, and social-political development ) of progressive nations before criticizing the good intenions of other people.
