Women in Kano State have been banned from riding in the same buses as men and from riding behind men on motorcycles as the state government extends its application of Islamic Shari'ah law.

The separation of the sexes in this state in northern Nigeria will be enforced by a 9,000-strong religious police force with the power to fine people who ignore the new rules.

State governor Ibrahim Shekarau launched the implementation of the new law on Tuesday at a ceremony at Kano city stadium attended by 10,000 chanting supporters. read more

I lived in the northern part of Nigeria, and i think i have a little idea about this SHARIA LAW......... and know that it requires a lot of money from the govt, and instead of wasting all this money and time buying seperate buses which i am very sure that they can not even meet the real standard of the SHARIA LAW......., they should think of developing their states and the country and even feed all this beggers you find on the streets in the north.
I just feel they are really backward in their thinking cos the so called people sponsoring this SHARIA LAW do not even practise it themselves instead they leave the masses to practise this law and kill themselves in the process all in the name of religion, which is so sad.......

I mean I still remembered when they wanted to stone a lady for committing adultery, is she the only one that is doing that in Nigeria? Damn the stupid law. Oh pls, The sole called President can't even talk, I was highly dissappointed when America had to tell those people to stop. The President must really be afraid of the Northern part (maybe they put him power sha).

Don't let me continue with my examples, those laws are lame for real.

this is really just an attempt by the northern elite rulers to cleanse their area of non-hausa/fulani and non-muslim. it's a scary and sad thing because it's religious persecution for christians that live in that area, and on some level this seems to be an opening road towards ethnic cleansing. i almost guarantee that is where this is going.

what is obasanjo to do? almost any action by him will escalate the situation. if he goes and agrees, then other people will say look at this yoruba man, we don't want him, he's a useless president. if he goes and doesn't agree, the northerners will take that as a reason to start rioting and killing Christians en masse. as president, his hands are pretty tied because i don't think he wants ethnic cleansing to arise on his watch. which is a sad thing altogether.
