Abi o, naija and their self righteous attitude....how many times have they labeled African American useless and generalize o but once you generalize about their tief, tief behavior, they get mad. I just had a Nigerian rip me off and now I've taken his ass to court for my money. I had a Naija babe hug up on my scrapbook and took me through hell to get it back and I mean unnecesary hell o. Imagine, I needed a car urgently 'cos one got totalled from an accident and the other one broke down completely a week after that. I went through two Nigerian car dealers out of deperation. They took my money but returned it later. My mistake was going to another Naija man and now I have to take his ass to court to get the money. Bunch of thieves but I'm quite sure if a Naija man had generalized like that people wouldn't have come here and say nonsense about him.

Exactly! And that's why I barely watch her shows. My GF is addicted to her and thinks she's the smartest women in the world, if not the smartest person in the world.

Needless to say that my own opinion of Oprah is less flattering. To me, Oprah doesn't strike me as someone is very intelligent. Forget her shows, most of them are very scripted. Does she work with intelligent people, eg Dr Phil? Absolutely. But I am yet to hear her, personally, asking probing questions or engages in anything even remotely close to an aggressive interview.

And to ye folks who claim that Oprah can't say something like that, I laugh at y'all. Oprah had made dumber generalizations in the past. Remember when she got sued by the Cow industry....during the mad cow disease epidemic? The only she got out of it is b'cos she has money to hire the best attornys in the world.

Having said that, I am not gonna stick my neck out to say that he definitely said what the Punch newspaper attributed to her. However, my point is that Oprah is very capable of making such a dumb generalization. Being rich and famous doesn't automatically make one classy and smart.

Luv mac dear, maybe in the past you had some issues with Ms. Oprah....but did you watch the episode in question here? You cannot just rely on someone’s article and consider that to the gospel truth...Oprah to me is sometimes fake but the truth of the matter is that she was accused falsely in that article...the cow industry stuff was just nonsense to me and Dr. Phil is not someone I will consider that smart either...but I tell you what, Oprah is one hell of a woman both in the academic’s and being smart in handling her billions and still being in the talk show business whereas others have tried and their shows have been cancelled. You can never beat that.

Oprah is a talk show host, she's not friggin christianne amanpour, go to cnn/fox news/al jazeera for your "probing, intellectual questions.

she got sued by the cow industry because she said she doesn't eat red meat and doesn't think it's healthy to eat it. Free speech. ALSO, happens to be the truth, what with cows being fed other dead cows in america and all, but i digress....

Bottom line, we love our oprah. Leave her alone jo....

I watched a portion of Opray's show that reviewed many scams by dubious characters across the world and the Nigerian 419 scam was a portion of the show. If my memory serves me correctly, Opray did not generalise that all Nigerians are corrupt. Infact, she made a clear disclaimer which I will paraphrase here: " I do not want to be misquoted that all Nigerians are involved in this scam, infact there are many good hard working Nigerians out there. She further stated that the disclaimer was necessary to avoid all kinds of petitions about what she alledgedly said in the hour interview from misquotation. Infact, there were Caucasian scammers presented in the same hour program.

While we must not relent in attacking or possibly responding and responding hard against anyone that present Nigeria in negative light, we must be careful to have accurate facts before criticizing. Further, we should also not condone any Nigerian that will bring disrespect to our community. We should also police ourselves rather than allow our patriotic emotons overide our sense of objectivity in some cases. This is not to give some Nigerians the opportunity to blackmail or hurt fellow Nigerians by making false allegations just to get even, what I am proposing is that, if you find a Nigeria doing something illegal, get community leaders to speak with the person(s). We must not glorify ill gotten wealth, rather , we must return to the old norm of respect for hard work in all human endeavors.

I personally believe Oprah is too intelligent to make such statement. I think someone is taking what she said out of context or someone is just making up story. I also know that we all make mistakes, if Oprah did said anything of this sort, I believe she apologize immediately or later did/will. No one gets to the place she currently is by making this type of statements.
