ONE of Nigeria's favourite R&B group, Styl-Plus will on February 25 launch its debut album entitled Expressions at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. Thereafter, the album will be launched in Lagos on March 4, at the MUSON Centre.

One of the questions the fans of Styl-Plus may ask is, "why call this release the first?" According to the management team, the first release was just an elpee, a collection of about four songs. Despite the wide acceptance, and popularity of the songs, the previous release cannot technically pass for a full album since the international standard for an album is nine tracks."

The long awaited album which comprises of 11 songs will showcase the diversity of the group's writing and singing skills. One unique thing about the album is its eclectic blend of the tracks and styles, though the music never strayed too far from its Afro-centric roots. The first single of the album, Imagine That, is currently getting massive airplay on radio stations in the country. Other songs in the album include Iya Basira, Always on my Mind, Home within my Heart, Ima, Drive me Crazy, among others.

Styl-Plus released its hit singles Olufunmi and Runaway to the world a little over two years ago. The R&B group comprising Shifi Emoefe, Tunde Akinsanmi and Zeal Onyechme, are credited with having the best selling Nigerian music video CD to date. The group had toured and thrilled its fans across the country, including Europe and some other African countries. The group have also performed on stage with such artistes as Wyclef Jean, Boyz II Men, Sean Paul, Shaka Demus and Pliers and Yvonne Chaka Chaka among others.

The group has several awards in its kitty and they were nominated for the Best West African Act in the 2005 KORA Awards in South Africa. Styl Plus group, a former gospel quartet, was formed in 1997 by Emoefe, Akinsanmi, Akinsanmi, and Lanre Faneyi. In 1999 Lanre passed on and Zeal Onyecheme joined the group. The name STYL which was formed by combining the first letters of the first names of the founding members then turned to Styl-Plus. The PLUS being used to indicate the new addition to the group.

I have heard some of the songs from the new album "Imagine that, Iya Basira, Ijapa, Hadiza and i must confess they are really lovely, infact those guys are talented espcially the Imagine that song, very lovely and its everywhere in naija now....Afi gba to so pe owun o se mo, Imagine that, Kilofe ko sele simi tobalo, Imagine that...i could go on and on, men that song sweet.

I need a copy o right away....I love styl plus---funny enough, this is the only group i like out of naija sha. Those boys are very original.
