Eagles, Black Stars clash in London


Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Sani Lulu Abdullahi has told KICK OFF that barring any last-minute hitch, the Super Eagles will play Ghana Black Stars in a top grade friendly on 7 February, 2007.

The international match was earlier scheduled for July at the same venue but was cancelled due to what Eagles Chief Coach Austin Eguavoen called "wrong timing".

For sometime now the NFA have been criticized for their inability to organize friendly matches for the senior national team. But Lulu has assured all that the Super Eagles would play one or two top grade friendly games before their next Nations Cup qualifying game in March.

"We know that Nigerians are yearning for friendly matches for our senior national team, but I can tell you that we also know the importance of our teams playing friendly games which will help in preparing them for their assignments like the Nations Cup," Lulu said.

"I am confident that the Eagles will play a friendly match against the Black Stars of Ghana come February 7, 2007. The Technical Committee of the NFA is working tirelessly to ensure that the match is played on that day.

"I can also tell you that there are other countries also requesting to play against the Eagles," Lulu further revealed to KICK OFF at the Zone 7 Abuja office of the Association on Monday.

KICK OFF scooped that the Nigeria versus Ghana friendly would be played in London where it would be convenient for Nigeria and Ghana's foreign-based players to assemble for the game.

Other countries like Togo and Morocco have also been confirmed as potential Super Eagles opponents on FIFA free days.

"Finally" is a good choice to qualify this ......long-over-due game. It will be good for the Eagles. The Eagles will have no problem losing to Gambia, but when it comes to Ghana.... no way ! It brings the best out of them. I think there should be more of such games between the 2 teams.

Very funny ! Pray for a draw..... men ! I just love the fact that there's an African team within FIFA's 1st ten list. With a lost to Ghana, that might evaporate just like that... and that will not make me a happy man !
