EPL vs Others?
Is the EPL really the best league in the world, top to bottom? Or are just their top tier teams better?

Depends on how you wann judge it. If it is just the top 4 EPL is the best league by mile. But if you look at overall ranking Spanish league takes it. However, Champions league representatives and performances determine which league is up there, and for the past 3 years EPL has come on top. Therefore, EPL is the best league in the world in my book.

The Spanish La Liga is the best in the world. In the last 7 years, they've won 3 champions league trophies and they're also the first country to have 2 teams in the final (Valencia VS Real Madrid 2000).
La Liga is also the most competitive league in Europe. In England, everyone knows the top four teams (Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool) will inevitably occupy the top 4 league positions and qualify for the champions league, however it is not that certain in Spain. In addition, if you look at the number of teams that have represented England in the champions league you'll notice that Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds have made it the champions league group phase (Everton failed to qualify when they finished 4th 2 years ago). On the contrary, La Liga has had Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Real Mallorca, Villareal, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, represent Spain in the champions league. As you can see, La Liga is a very competitive league and nothing is certain in the Spanish league.
By the way, has it ever occured to you guys that no player has ever won the world player of the year award while playing in the premiership? The premiership started in 93/94 and we're yet to have a world best player (maybe Christiano Ronaldo can do it). Needless to say, Romario, Rivaldo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Cannavaro all won the world player of the year award while playing in La Liga. Do I need to say more?

The analysis above is thorough EPL is all about the typical English pum and plush where the media -at their disposal anyway-is used to hype the league beyond comprehension.Incidentally, the whole hype is catching up with the players as they all want to play in the EPL.
However,at the rate they are going,EPL would overtake La Liga in no distant time bcos things are really getting down now in the EPL

And while we're on the subject, the "BUNDESLIGA" has to be down the bottom somewhere just for the "yawn" factor!

La Liga of course! They play football the way it should be played. I like their Tip-Tap style foottball. As Medeen said, all their teams from top to bottom play good competitive football. Whereas here,we have teams that can only play kung-fu style, negative, long ball football. Bolton, take note!
About two decades ago, Serie A was THE best league in the world, but that one has become so boring now but for the wonderful Kaka.
The Premiership too used to be soooo boring until Ruud Gullit (in my humble opinion) helped transform it when he brought Zola, Vialli, Lebouf, De-Matteo, Babayaro etc. to Chelsea.
(Arsene Wenger played a huge part in transforming the Premiership too)
Matthew Harding (RIP) started the Premiership revolution with his support for Glenn Hoddle the then Chelsea Manager. Glen bought Gullit who then became Chelsea Manager and so on....
But the English Press will never give credit to Gullit will they?
Anyway, La Liga it is!!

What's the story behind Marinho naming his dog Gullit? Is he just being the usual *****?..And as for the English press, if you're not british forget it!
And to add to those names there, the likes of Cantona also brought some flair to the EPL in his ManU days. That was when I actually liked ManU

Re Mourinho and his dog's name: Really? Just heard it from you now. Didn't know at all. Wouldn't put it past him naming his dog Gullit just for the publicity. The man is so in love with himself. But I must admit that there's a part of me that actually likes him a weenie tiny bit, even with all his faults. I do like self-assured confident men
Yes you are right, Cantona did play his part too. But I've never liked Man U even then.

Yep, thats why I find him and Simon Cowell sorta sexy...
And yes, Murinho's dog was reportedly called Gullit, and Gullit says then it must be a great dog!!!!But now the refer to it as leya, so he must have done some damage control...LOL!

A story of a man being arrested following a dispute with the police regarding his dog’s inoculation status is normally not cause for front page news but when the man in question is Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho a non-story becomes a tabloid writer’s wet dream. ‘Jose in the Dog House’, ‘Mad Dog Mourinho’, ‘Jose’s Dog-ba’ – you can probably come up with some better ones yourself.
There are a couple of interesting aspects of this story to me. The first is that Mourinho owns a Yorkshire Terrier. There are some who are of the belief that people own dogs that resemble themselves. According the experts at Wikipedia, the majority of Yorkshire Terriers “meet the breed standard for a confident, vigorous and self-important personality.” Sounds about right. Plus it is easy to picture Mourinho with a little lap dog. We’ve all seen how John Terry jumps at his every command.
The other thing of interest from this major media event is that the dog in question is named Gullit. Makes you wonder how Ruud Gullit feels about that. The dog Gullit apparently escaped during Mourinho’s showdown with the police and Paddy Power have opened up a book to allow you to bet where it will show up with the favored odds being inside Jose’s manbag. I’m betting my pension fund that Wayne Rooney ate it for breakfast.

“Any dog called Gullit must be something special”
To the relief of all football fans, Ruud Gullit has finally shared his opinion on the most important football story of the moment. Jose Mourinho’s dog.
He told the Guardian, in a “big interview” today, “I did like the idea that he had named his dog after me. It didn’t matter that it was very tiny. If Jose’s dog is called Gullit then I understand why it is so precious to him. Any dog called Gullit must be something special.”
