Are you really serious you don't know what it is,blue?
Well, let me take an educated guess why you might not know what it is,"You do not have brothers",right?
If you have brothers, you will definitely know what table soccer is,because it is so addictive to young boys(and old agbayas),especially the ones who live and school in lagos.

I do have brothers but we didnt live together growing up, so that might explain it. I do know what it is, but didnt know that people were this crazy about it. I used to see all those yeye boys in my class carrying bottle covers about, but i wasnt interested in finding out what they were doing with it.

You know this goes to something deeper.... It says something about the ingenuousness of children before the video game and 24 hr TV era. We made up our own games. We used our imaginations to entertain ourselves.

I remember my friend's mother once told me that a child, even today, should never utter the words "I'm bored"... That they should use their imagination to think up games and activities. She said when she was growing up, there was no video games, no TV or anything like that. But her childhood was filled with wonderful playful memories.

Memories like table soccer!

We had well 'designed' players with special jerseys pasted on the top of the bottle caps. The caps were stuffed with some thick papers to give them some weight ... man I could go on forever...that was the %$#@* bomb!!!! We had strict rules

1. You can't aim for the post from your end of the post. . . if the ball (Small white plastic wheel ripped outta radio cassette)mistakenly rolls into the net,the player gets a yellow card.

2. Do not 'drag' the bottle cap...that's a yellow card offense. Simple place your left thumb to guide the 'ball' aim and kick off the bottle cap with your right thumb. If you aim is right, the bottle cap should send the ball to the right direction. 'Dragging and firing' is only allowed during free kick/corner/penalty.

(There is a way to cheat here... and that is by simply dragging the bottle cap half way and kicking out the bottle cap to release a deadly shot. You have to do it pretty fast so the referee will not notice)

3. If you kick, miss the ball and hit an opponent... free kick, no card. If the opponent tumbles and falls belly up... RED CARD.

4. You can not 'rub it in' when you win, especially if you are the younger opponent because such display usually leads to ass whupping.

90% of the girls thought it was pretty dumb but hey... I am not sure if they said that because we don't pay attention to anything that moves whenever we are immersed in that glorious sports

I could go on forever... we played this ish so much that we could totally abandon food when all the boys are gathered... 24 hrs of non stop "Table football'... man, ya know, I stashed all our players during our last tournament in '99 and any time I meet any of my brothers or table football buddies, I think we will have a go at that thing for old time's sake

Anyone up for a challenge? We could use custom stadium to make it look classy.
Oh Yes!!!THE RULES!!!CHEII!!!!!!!!!
1.U no fit do throw-in straight enter net!E must hit @ least one player or else E no count..
2. if ..when U place the button(more like...'lay the button') on the player for the throw-in and the button happens to slip off and lay flat on the table before ya player hit am,dat na foul-throw-in..ball goes to the other team
3.Initial rule was three-corners in a row(if ya players dey block am)=1 penariti but it was abolished after FIFA looked into it
4.If somehow ya play "trips" and covers the ball, dat na 'handball',free kick!!(some idiots actually knew had to make their players hit yours with such perfection that it hops and covers the ball!)
4.If E cover the ball inside the18yard box,PENARITI!!!
5.In a set-piece(or freekick) just outside the box,U fit use ya goalie as part of the three man 'wall' ..since U fit stand the goalie up to block am..as long as he's not beyong the 18-yard line..chei!Talk about creative defending!

..btw..no tempt me O...I go kick ya yansh in this game..no make me enter Toys'R'Us go buy mini table-tennis table begin use am practise O...

Na all the rules dey make the thing sweet now... if not JJC them go dey frustrate you by aiming for your goal post from their own end... I mean...WTF?

But Alhaji, next time I land ya area, we go make a trip to Walmart buy a large 'table tennis' board coat am with cement... and it will be on! Don't worry, the table will be tricked out with a box undernearth, one side for Table soccer and the other for table tennis.. anytime we get a hint of Funke stepping in...we roll the table and play ping pong...and bone like say nothing dey happen. The moment she steps out...it's back to bizness.

You got that right...boredome went outta the window those days...

You can Imagine something that made me abandon Sega and Nintendo football, heck we ignored the Playstation rave back in 95/6? until we'd had enough Table Soccer...actually when our hands and limbs are numb from conutless hours of action...we try to 'ease off' with those Sega and Nintendo International Football series...they were nowhere near the excitement of TS but hey, you gotta 'warm'up for the next group fixture...

I remember my younger brother having this particular bottletop he named Tony Yeboah[His team was Ghana]. He was the longest serving player. He always survived the crash[clean up].Infact my brother had to attach some strands from his hair to signify how old he is.
What a delight it was.Funny enough that particular bottletop always scores.
Talk of experience
I can Identify with that... in our hood everyone wanted to be Nigeria so we had to pick our teams...unfortunately the crappiest guy picked Nigeria...this guy was so crappy he hardly scored any goal and anytime he did... "Wooo woooo! Okocha!!!!Okochaaaaaaa! OKOOOOCHAAAA!!!!

My younger brother Got Zambia and I got Cameroon (Alway screaming Roger Milleeeeeer!!!!). During one of those 'plane crash' moments (Parents dumping the entire team into the dust bin) his No. 11 Kalusha Bwalya always survived...it was an old yellowish Multimalt cap with the same old green white jersey glued on top. It also survived when my sister threw away all the 'footballers'. Though my younger brother wasn't the regular champion (Na me get am) he always had the highest goal scorer in EVERY tournament and you know who...? You guessed right! It was always that rusty sturdy No. 11 yellowish Maltimalt cap labelled "Kalusha Bwalya"

When we got tired of the Okocha, Bilolo Tambwe, Casongo Mpia,Titi Camara,Patrick Mboma, Abdoulaye Traore, Kalusha Bwalya, Charles Akunnor... we fabricated a continent with 'Chocodile' as the only black county in the 12-country continent...of course everyone wanted to be 'Chocodile' so we did the usual and the crappiest guy with no skill and 100% unbeatable tricks got the darn thing... I remember vividly the 'Hit men' of the countries of the fabricated continent

El Zemani (Chocodilian hit man No. 7)
Nico Sabatini
Peter Ross
Guy O'connor (Hitman from Hemro No. 9)
Edwin Rogers (Black dude hitman from Hemro No. 10)

et cetera et cetera

This ish was like a religion back in nthose days...

Make una forgive me my pipulu...couldn't help it...those sweet memories never go away
