...As much as I won't be disappointed if we do not win the Olympic Gold,I would love to see Nigeria qualify from the group. If anything,we MUST beat the United States, even if just for bragging rights. The US is going to prove to be a very very difficult team to beat because they're very organised.Besides that, they also come with some serious talent...gone are the days when the Yanks didn't have talented footballers...Freddy Adu,Josey Altindore and a few others will prove to be a handful for our guys. However, with the right selection,I expect us to win.
As far as our team is concerned,it will be interesting to see how well we can do without Mikel Obi.I understand he's been left out of the team, maybe this will reveal the next batch of midfielders, who knows? He was instrumental in the 2005 Silver but his influence in the team has waned recently due to lack of appearance.Emmanuel Ekpo, from what I understand,is also a very good and fluid midfielder---I can't say I've noticed his football even when the South Africa match was televised because the Amagluglug ran rings around our midfield a few times.I was not impressed by the airballs we kept playing as if we were in a rush to get the ball upfront too quickly. The South Africans were more purposeful in their team play even though individually we had better footballers on the field.I really think the Dream Team showed the same deficiencies the Super Eagles have:A weak midfield.
To remedy that I think some fresh legs are needed and needed to be present.Olufemi Oladapo and Emmanuel Ekpo are believed to be our two best midfielders, with the likes of Haruna Lukman,Issa and Rabiu Ibrahim could have the needed looks. The fact that Osaze has also been penned for the Olympics will really help our cause in the midfield as he brings experience.Upfront,I've never been in favor of Isaac Okoronkwo as dude will miss 18 chances before nailing one.Promise Isaac also needs to stop wasting Promising chances if he's going to seal his place because as far as the future in the Eagles is concerned, guys like Chrisantus and Anichebe are relishing their chances as viable options.Ogbuke needs to be more creative and purposeful on the wings.I will like to see Obinna Nsofor in Beijing too after the final roster is made. But in all,we have a lot of solid players, hence we should do well

In the case of our women though,we're in hot peppersoup. They will have to play their yanshes off to qualify from that Group of Death.Every other team is a SUPERPOWER.But then again, with the Falcons who blow hot and cold,U never know which team will show up on the field.I think it will tremendously help the girls' moral if the NFA can keep their off-field shenanigans to a minimum this time and have the team well prepared.I've been up close and personal in post match gatherings(on two ocassions) in which the morale of the women's team is very very low,so low sometimes you can only imagine how they keep on keeping on.The officials do a very horrible job of taking good care of the team. How,for instance, can a team be wearing THE SAME kit for an entire competition, someone wants to tell me they can't afford to give these girls multiple kits?I mean, has anyone every noticed how the Nigerian women's team never exchanges jerseys with opponents after matches simply because they do not have replacements? This is horrible.
Same goes for paying their match bonuses, but they hardly get the bare minimum that the NFA has assigened to them.I recall like two years ago when the team refused to leave South Africa after qualifying for the world cup because someone was holding on to their money. How can U compete on the global stage when U have these sorts of things to deal with? So,win or lose,I commend the girls' team. They must have nerves of steel to keep on trotting and trying their hardest to make the country proud.I recall in 1999 when they came for the Women's world cup, after the match, they were supposed to be paid $1500 each....but instead were reportedly even thankful to have gotten $500.Someone walking around with a huge GMG bag of moola was pocketting their money. In 2003,a few of us hung out with them in Philly after a match and they told us their issues. When the NFA tried the same thing with the Super Eagles in 2001 we all saw what happened:half the guys didn't show up for a # of matches and we almost didn't qualify for the world cup.
As far as this year, for the women, honestly,in this group,I won't be expecting Nigeria to qualify from this group. My expectation?Close losses, perhaps two ties @ the most.If they win one or two matches, that will be a huge plus. They have come very close before against both Germany and Brazil, losing by 1 goal after leading 1-0 with barely 10 minutes to go.Against Brazil we nearly pulled an upset, losing 4-3,so..it's not undoable..it's just a huge task considering all our opponents have teams that could grab the Olympic gold

USA vs Nigeria will be a cracker. I will be watching without missing any second, that includes the commercial as well! Freddy Adu and Taiye Taiwo are the players want to see light up the Olympics because they are left footers. I expect Nigeria and USA to qualify out of that group.
