Skipper Nwankwo Kanu and Wolves midfielder Seyi Olofinjana were the two conspicuous absentees as 19 players limbered up at the National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday.
Team officials informed KickOffNigeria.com that the Portsmouth striker had stopped over in England for medical reasons and coach Shuaibu Amodu said he would be joining camp later on Thursday night.

"Kanu is a very effective member of this team and I am sure he is going to be around."

But he ruled out Obafemi Martins from the rest of the qualifiers, saying the player will be out for eight weeks after a scan.

"Obafemi is out of it. He is going to be out of it for the next eight weeks according to him. He had a scan and the doctors advised him to stay out," Amodu told KickOffNigeria.com.

Amodu, however, defended the team's 30 minutes training on Thursday and the absence of his assistant coaches: Daniel Amokachi, Fatai Amoo and Aloy Agu .

No reason was given as regards the absence of Seyi Olofinjana.
