Olympics: Opening ceremony shocker awaits Nigerian officials
IN keeping with our tradition Sports Editor, Onochie Anibeze has fired his first salvo. Minutes before take off from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, he was in touch with China and from his mobile workman (one of his many gadgets), he sent this story to you our esteemed readers.
RUDE Shock awaits Nigerian officials who have either traveled or about to take-off for the Beijing Olympics.Sports Vanguard can reveal exclusively that most of them would not be opportuned to watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics live as only four tickets have been allocated to the country. What that means is that only those who have accreditation would watch the opening ceremony. But Nigerian officials in Beijing are still fighting the International Olympic Committee, IOC, over what they called a ‘meagre’ allocation to the country. And to make matters worse, Nigeria was not given event’s tickets to enable them watch some of the events of the Olympics. And some angry Nigerian officials are blaming it on the late release of money that stopped them from securing tickets earlier.
As it is now, the only possible way for them to watch the opening ceremony is to buy tickets. And in the past, tickets to the opening ceremony are usually very expensive and goes for 500 to 1000 Euros. Also, tickets for such popular events like Track and Field, Swimming, Tennis and Gymnastics usually attract higher amounts. And the only way out of their predicament is to watch the opening ceremony on TV.

Super Falcons lost. Never really expected much from them. Super Eagles match with favorites Holland should be interesting if my people behave themselves. A loss shouldn't be a shocker, but an upset would be nice.

The Falcons were really annoying against the Koreans. They lacked focus, drive and urgency...I think they are out of it already!

And we have just witnessed the greatest opening ceremony in the history of the Olympics. The world's next superpower has just thrown an extraordinary party with the world's audience in attendance.
What a spectacle!!!
The Chinese must have literally spent billions of pounds on this extraordinary olympics. The stadium is the first of it's kind and it's in the form of a bird's nest (hence the name "Bird's Nest").
I just don't see London hosting a better olympics in 2012 than the Chinese because lets face facts, the Chinese have a lot of money to spend presently.
Shame on all those so called Western powers (US, UK, France & Germany) who tried their utmost best to ruin the olympic games for the most populous nation on earth. They wanted to use the olympic games as a political weapon, but they've been unsuccessful. I must also commend president Bush ( I can't believe I'm saying this) for standing his ground in the face of severe political pressure in the US for him to boycott the games. His insistence that the games should be about uniting the world, will go down as one of the brave decisions in olympic history. It was nice seeing him at the opening ceremony. Well done!
We now look forward to the GREATEST OLYMPICS GAMES SO FAR!!!
