What do you call when a player come for your groin when the ball is on the ground? A RED CARD!!! Moving on...Amokachi was brutally kicked, got taken off the pitch, and nothing was done by the refree. Okay, second half of the game, Rashidi Yekini clearly beat Maldini-Italian last man- and Maldini pulled his shirt, but Rashidi Yekini couldn't be brought down. Maldini had to pull and obstruct Rashidis legs for Rashidi to fall, if not that would had been a goal. Now what do you call when a last man takes a striker down in the process of scoring a goal? A RED CARD baby!!! Despite all that we should have won the game. We went to extra time and the refree called a penalty kick against us, on Equavoen, which there was no pushing involved at all. It was a two players contesting for a header and he called that a foul!!! Give me a break Meddeen!!

Wasn't Zola sent off for retaliation? Why can't you guys ever accept defeat in good faith? Afterwards a Nigerian defender should also have been sent off for bringing down Lionel Messi when he was the last man.
Italy won that game fairly, you need to accept defeat and stop complaining about referee decision. Why would referees always make the wrong decisions when it comes to Nigeria? Nigeria is not even among the favourites when it comes to winning world cup, so why would referees pick on Nigeria? Abeg relax your body jor.

I heard the same story when Nigeria won the olympic in 1996. I even concluded that Nigeria has finally produced the "dream team". But nothing came out it and Nigeria is even worse than they were 4 years ago. Even Senegal went to the world for the first time and reached the quater-finals. Nigeria has been going to world cup without reaching the quaterfinals and now they're even struggling to qualify. That's what happens when a team depends on one player. Nigeria cannot perform well without Okocha.

Let's see where this new generation of players take Nigeria. But I'm not getting carried away OK.

Don't be funny Meddeen!! Zola got sent, like you said...RETALIATION! That's something you don't do in professional sport- IMMEDIATE RETALIATION! When Lionel Messi was taken down in the box it wasn't intentional, and Adeleye wasn't the last men either. The outcome of Adeleye's action, Penalty Kick. In the case of Maldini, he was the last man and was clearly beaten by the gigantic skillfull RASHIDI YEKINI. THAT, should be a RED CARD. And for your information Nigeria was expected to go farther in USA '94, and expected to be a serious threat to any team in '98, so get real patna!!

Nigeria was a surprise package in USA 94 and they weren't even among the favourites. Have you forgotten that it was Nigeria's first world appearance?
They were not among the favourites in 1998. You need to be a very good team inorder to be considered as favourites in a world cup. You should get real bro.

Gone are the days when football used to be fun; when folks played for merits and honors as opposed to money.

Check out my list:

Thomas Nkono (Cameroun) - World's best goalkeeper during and after the world cup competition hosted by Spain (Espanol '82) won by Italy courtesy the brilliant performance of Paulo Rossi

Raber Madjah (Algeria) - Instrumental to the victory of Algeria over Germany in '78/ '82 world cup.

Yissaou Fofana (Ivory Coast) - The best striker ever to come out of Africa. He was the first African player to have signed a contract of $1M with a french side - Monaco, I think.

Theophilus Abega (Cameroun) - You need to watch the final bout between Nigeria and Cameroun in 1984 to get my drift on this terrific player.

Hassan Hossam (Egypt) - A brilliant footballer known for his dribbling skils. The guy was profoundly brilliant with his ball controls and enthralling of opponents.

What about the world cup qualifying games that Okocha missed, how did Nigeria perform? What happened in Kigali (Rwanda)? You need to face facts bro, Nigeria is just an ordinary team without Okocha. His brilliance has helped Nigeria so many times.

PS: I'm not discussing Sierra Leone football with you. So stick to the topic of the discussion OK.

..there's no football in Sierra Leone to discuss so no shakin'... well..he played in Kano..abi?It was not only Okocha that was missing in the Rwanda match...5 or 6 key players were also missing..Julius Aghahowa was injured..Kanu was missing..Ayegbeni was AWOL........lemme put it this way..Okocha or no Okocha..Naija shoots itself in the foot too many times..so when we lose or underperform it's not based on the calibre of players..we walloped South Africa in 2000 ANC with no Okocha...Nigeria was sitting Okocha on the bench in 1994...and I'm sure U cant say jack about that team being ordinary.....the next Okocha is here(JMO--John Mikel Obi ) and there's a swath of supporting cast for him to make things happen..too much meddling on Naija football for U to understand...my broda..U're yet to see the best of Nigerian Football...

Just now reading this. Okay yor right we weren't among the favorites in '94, no african countries has ever gotten to that level, but we were no underated neither! Remember, we were the most entertaining team in that tournament. '98 was a year they considered us as a serious threat....remember Atlanta '96 team, may be not favorite to win the tournament. As usual, they expected us to play solid football like we always do. Gotta go!

That was the golden generation of Nigerian footballers. Okocha was a young player still learning his trade at that time. But since Okocha became matured, Nigeria hardly perform well without Okocha. Talents like Okocha hardly comes around and he is much more skillful than John Mikel Obi.
