Look, it takes a lot for filmmakers back home to raise money to make their films. Even here, those on NR here who want to make movies, some have not due to financing. Its not that they cannot make good movies, the resources and help are not there. So if Mama gives you money to make a film and there is no 37% interest sitting on the money, don't begin to jump up and down and discredit people who actually sweat, strive, and struggle to put their art out there by saying your film is the best when you cannot even get technicalities right.

we just read about Emem Isong and how she sur Thvived.

What would the case be like if she were to write a script and run around sourcing for funding and not get enough to make the type of movie she really wants to make?

make noise, sell your movie as aggressively as you can. In fact, with Genny and OmoT, she will break box office that one, no shaking. But, please respect others who were there and in fact made it possible for you to also be there.

    ahh. Expensive beads don't shout.
How does her description of her movie as being the first well-made movie in Nigeria, disparage her forbears? I don't get your argument. She is promoting her movie.what else is she supposed to say? I don't know why this rubs you the wrong way.For me,it's not significant. This is what all this guys do all the time.It is for the audience to decide. As for insulting the people's intelligence,it is the press who you should be angry with. They play along..They don't ask the right questions.I don't like the tone of this debate. It is unnecessarily heated for my liking. We can still talk about this without all the heat.

I'm surprised you guys still don't get it.
Angela hates anything that has to do with Genevieve Nnaji. She will go out of her way to ensure that any project featuring Genevieve gets negative press. The fact that we're even discussing this movie is good for its publicity so I urge her to keep up her hatred. This movie is bound to go places and nothing she does will prevent this movie form being regarded as a great Nollywood movie.

This argument has officialy become ridiculous... The girl has a right to tout her movie as the best, how about we wait and see before we crucify her....abeg when has nollywood used hollywood actors? 30 days, not to be rude but i had not heard about that guy, till 30 days and the oyinbos we see are usually Lebanese men that cannot speak english to save their lives.....lets leave this matter and wait jare....Until then She can call her movie the best ever! Afterall avatar claimed to be the best, was it the best, no. Was the movie entertaining? Only in 3d....the story was really crappy and nollywood would have given us more juice in a story.... See i have not brought Genevieve into this argument, because i want to believe that you are looking at this movie from the point of view of someone in the business...but like i said earlier, it has become redundant.....

PS: Microsoft is racist, i wrote nollywood and it gave me that stupid red-line spell check thingy....and the suggestions were...Bollywood and Hollywood!! We are the 2nd best for forks sake!!
So the friggin frack has fracked eh?

I tire oh!! Lips na she get and no be say she disrespect anyone but haters just gotta hate ya know!?

And must any new director acknowledge Tunde Kelani's?? The TK's didn't start it at all..... They were great filmmakers before them and they will be greater after them.... Simply said!!

Each time arguements about older and younger filmmakers arise, all I see is a cluster of emotional aging men giving kudos to those who did well in their very time.

Nike deep your leg in a bow of water and watch Tunde Kelani's Arugba...... You'll be dumbfounded..... His movies are all about the art, the entertainment part of it has been killed sorta yet people still want to say he is number one......

    I rest my case!!!

The symptoms you exhibit speak of one who has no proper understanding of what he speaks, Sky. TK is no GREAT filmmaker/Director, but he is really GOOD. In cinematography, he is GREAT. As to the great filmmakers before him, name one.

secondly, you may be "arguing" about older and younger filmmakers, while I am just asking you to defend a claim you made as quoted in my previous post. But you obviously can't defend that claim, so you're throwing tantrums as a deflection. You do not need to get insulting in the process, my friend.

Finally, as this thread is obviously heading nowhere, I did not call any movie-maker Number one. Those are your words. Anyone in the know would not label movie-makers like that because it honestly cannot be categorised like that. And there is no age in making films. There's just the work of your hands and the fact that some actually make films while some of us settle for home video. Until we start acknowledging and properly crediting what is good in our midst, we will continue hailing mediocrity. What TK does that folks like you should copy quickly is take time to shoot each scene until he feels it is right, lighting it right, using the right equipment (not just throwing money at it), etc. When many of our "filmmakers" are all aged and dead, to use your age inference, the fluff we mostly make will be instantly forgotten while those made well will stand the test of time. It is well.

English and south African and Senegalese movies are not "standard" then? they meet no "standards" of filmmaking?

do a google search for Tunde Kelani before you raise a movie you have not seen higher than him please. what is exciting about that trailer? the amateur lighting? if it were any other person, you Nike007 would have shot the person down. i can pull up some threads for you. lets be objective please. people were she she came all this raise myself...

You simply had to take it there, its always about her isnt it? There must be some deep seated issue - sort it out.

I wrote a book to reply you, but on the second thought, its irrelevant......

Moreover, I did not insult you.... Saying that you are aging and emotional, innoquously, wasn't an insult, well to me...... Maybe, you feel I shouldn't be talking to you like that, and if so, let me make a virtue of necessity and apologize. I think you don't deserve to be insulted, NEVER on NR.... IMO (Please don't respond to this).

And I intentional didn't and don't want to get into an arguement with you about TK, not because I have little or nothing to say (whether sensible or senseless.....), but because I just don't feel like knowing he is somewhat your mentor and you, his fan..... Plus having assessed you as someone who hardly considers anothers opinion when yours have been made......

I support "kpa kpa kpa filmmakers" and you support "filmmakers"...... It is well, indeed....

At the end of the day, I wish all with (even) the ability and a audience the best.....

Its alright, Sky. You obviously still don't get it, but no sweat. TK is not my mentor - he is one of the many mentors of ALL OF US - including you - in African home video movies. You don't have to correct a misrepresentation only if you're associated with someone. For us to grow, we need to always acknowledge those who paved the way, one way or the other. Those friends of yours you called "kpa kpa kpa filmmakers" - it just may surprise you how many of them I also call friend like you do, but I'm not going down that route. Support "quality filmmaking" - not personalities. I know your heart is in the right place though. You only want the best for the industry and in that, we can both agree. Regards.

Na wah o. I actually see value in both sides of the argument though. Lets just say that we all hope this movie can continue from where The figurine left off - creating a new standard for Nollywood. How about we all agree on that?

This fight here don brighten my day this morning. I woke up with a raging PMS and just reading this elevated my stress. Angela81 is good at pouring gasoline in an already blazing fire. I get the point that she is making sha, including everybody else. Chineze has the right to tute her own horn if she wants to. If she no sell her own movie, who else go sell am for her? She did not throw shades on other producers (she might have been thinking it). Angela please slow your roll. And everybody else, let Angela be. You should all know her MO by now. Actually come to think of it, Angela has hipped praises on this film in a previous thread. The only thing she took offense with concerning this interview is the fact that Chinezie said that because it took 18months to make her movie, it is the only film to have surpassed the Hollywood standard, that i disagree with. But please don't stop your fight, I am truly enjoying myself. I knew this would happen the moment I read this article days ago. I was meaning to post it on naijarules, but I forgot. So carry go with una fight.

    Ije hits cinemas

Chineze Anyaene dreamt of becoming one of the best Nigerian directors, not minding her young age. Now, the lady who studied film making in a film academy in the US has come up with a blockbuster titled Ije.

Shot on celluloid in Hollywood, Ije features two of Nigerian best actresses, Omotola Jalade and Genevieve Nnaji, and other Latin American and American stars.

According to Anyaene, "I wanted to make a film of Hollywood standard. So, when I finished my Master's at the New York Film Academy, I decided to embark on this project. I wanted a film that would appeal to everybody, not only Nigerians. We shot the movie for six weeks and did the post production for nine months."

The story is about two Nigerian sisters, one based in Nigeria and the other based in the US. The US-based sister was accused of murder and was put in jail. The Nigeria-based one had to fly all the way to the US to help her sister out of the situation.

Anyaene who has done well over 10 short films said she got tired of doing such and wanted to go for something bigger.

"This film was my thesis in school. I am just a student straight from school with this film. The movie has been screened at the Waner Brothers in the US. We have already entered the movie for eight international film festivals," she said.

Anyaene disclosed that the movie would be premiered in Nigeria later in the year.
