Ugbomah To Induct 40 Artistes In Hall Of Fame

Veteran filmmaker, Chief Eddie Ugbomah, has concluded plans to induct 40 Nigerian stakeholders in the film industry into the Filmmakers Hall of Fame (FHF) coming up September 28 at Merit Hall in Abuja. Those to be inducted as actors, out of the over 10,000 stakeholders, are aged Uncle Joe Layode, Pete Edochie, Jide Kosoko and Kazeem Yaro.

Others to be inducted as cinematographers are Tunde Kelani and Yusuf Mohammed. The old brigade comprising celluloid filmmakers like Joe Amu, Oba Sanya Dosunmu, Ola Balogun, Ladi Ladebo, Oga Bello, Chief Eddie Ugbomah, Brenda Shehu and Sadiq Balewa would be inducted as producers.

Those making the list of inductees for directors are the second generation filmmakers. They include Tunde Alabi, Zeb Ejiro, Gab Okoye, Ossy Affason, Wale Adenuga and Kenneth Nnebue.

Mama Rainbow, Liz Benson, Justus Esiri and Rachael Oniga made the list of inductees of actors/actresses. Others are Iyawero, Baba Wande, Yinka Quadri, George Ogunde, among others.

Chief Executive Officer of FHF, Eddie Ugbomah, explained the basis for picking those on the list. "It is not how famous you were few years back, but by being old and have contributed in different ways to the growth of the industry from 1966 to 1999," he said, adding that those on the list could be dropped if they fail to respond to the letters sent to them. He said four royal fathers have agreed to cover transport cost for all the inductees. He told Daily Independent that FHF is not his property, though it would support the Edifosa Movie Academy, adding that it was affiliated to the Black Movie Makers Hall of Fame in Oakland, United States. Ugbomah disclosed that plans were afoot to elevate the FHF to African Movie Makers Hall of Fame.

The FHF is composed of a board made up of Senator Ben Obi, Hon. Tunde Akogun, Prof. Femi Osofisan, Mrs. Roseline Odeh, past DG of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB); Mr. Peter Igho, Chief Gab Okoye and Bolaji Rosiji, President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman, Daar Communications Ltd., owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower; and Chief Victor Odili are patrons.

Ugbomah said he would storm Lagos with a 200-minute musical concert featuring old and authentic musicians at the National Theatre after the induction ceremony. The concert will feature 17 musicians, eight comedians and six disc jockeys.

"This is a special show to thank Chief Eddie Ugbomah for his years of relevant contribution to the entertainment industry," he said.

While keeping the names of the artistes secret, he nevertheless revealed them in codes, STDZ. He said the National Theatre, the Ministry of Culture and the Nigerian Breweries Plc were in support of the show. He said the General Manager of the National Theatre, Dr. Ahmed Yerima, has vowed to retain arts and culture in the country via the theatre with several shows to stop Nigerians from travelling abroad for shows.

Chief Ugboma? isnt this the man who is always condemning nollywood on tv and newspapers? The same man who felt the name nollywood was rubbish and shouldnt be followed, i admire his courage but hope its for the right course but then when u begin to do things like this, the sign that you are doing it right is whether u get any response or just echoes.

Actually, I also think the name "Nollywood" is rubbish. They should have gone for something more African.
