if you see from my thread here, i didnt ask TOO MUCH, I simply ask for suggestions of different themes outside of the usual MARRIAGE, WITCHCRAFT, JUJU, CULTISM, FAMILY PROBLEMS AND JUST A HANDFUL OF OTHERS.
I Simply ask for an open discussion since its an interesting topic,
I Akos I am not asking for anything else- kappish'
I personally dont like the juju, cultism, action, and runs ones but apart from that I am not complaining.

I support you! you didn't ask for anything instead they misunderstood you just the way the interviewers misunderstand actors/actresses during interviews.
it's just an open discussion and i think the producers should really sit together and ask themselves this question " why can't we come out with other ideas much more better than these love stories?" for me i prefer village scenes because they make more sense and tell more about our cultures.
About seeing the beginning of a film and within 10mins you can say how the end is going to look like. THAT TRUE, i support you for that.
They should try to think about something else, something new

- there is the nollywood TK, OGD, Dove Media
and there is the whole YMG which many often forget is part of nollywood
fact is there is ALREADY considerable diversity in nollywood though many can't/won't see it. no one has to watch voodoo movies if they don't want to.
there have to be different kinds of movies for different audiences. the audience that likes mildred okwo and emem isong movies may not like voodoo movies from annnex merchandize or frontmasters
i think its unrealistic to imagine that any genre of nollywood will wither away and disappear anytime soon. afterall, Hollywood somehow manages to produce both Oscar-contender period dramas for the East Coast urban aesthetes and high-adrenaline action flicks for pimply teenage boys in Middle America. Nollywood will most likely go the same way
the fundamental problem with nollywood for now is distribution and marketing for non-idumota english movies. when this is sorted, there'll be a lot more quality films coming out witjhout aki-and/pawpaw or voodoo themes. but this is a law enforcement/rule of law issue primarily.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Majority of the movies i own are the village movies. I just utterly love em.

What about human interest stories. People that have overcome the odds, not necessarily because someone cruel destroyed their lives, or someone stole something, etc, but just because they believed and worked at it and make it. Right now the human interest part of most of our stories (at least those I have seen) are usually glossed over. He/She went abroad and made it, or went to Lagos and made it... but how?. It will even be more meaniful if based on true life stories... Goodness knows we all know someone who has.
Secondly, not a different theme to suggest, just a preference to note.
In films where the stars sings. I typically prefer when they sing in one of our local dialects as oppose to foreign (mainly american) english love songs. We have some beautiful nigerian songs written in our local dialects. Perhaps we should show case those more.

This would take a lot of research to accomplish, and researching stories is way above the heads of the present crop of nollywood storytellers from idumota.Besides, such stories are too complex for them to produce. So you will not get this sort of stories to see on your screen. It is as simple as that.

Wow! I can't believe what I'm reading. So, we should just take the easy way out & dump everything on the wives of the marketers eh? So, na the wives of the marketers na dem invented juju, African rituals and other crazy things that nollywood's story tellers has been writing about?
Just wonderful! how ya like dat? 4,000years of juju rituals, dump it all on a few women in the 21st century just because their husbands has to check some so called "celebrities" whom could'nt check themsleves? na waa ooo.

Why on earth would you think I should be blamed if you cannot get a figurative expression? I have no idea about your 4000 years of juju. My point is that professional and talented script writers should handle this basic and foundation level of production. To break it down for you: Marketers provide the money for production and they believe they know everything. They go ahead and discuss with their wives and make up a story based on another film that SOLD in the market. If JUJU sold, more JUJU films with same plot will be retold. This is exactly where monotony and boredom set in. That is why some people are clamouring for expansion of ideas not necessarily dump JUJU. A clever script like KEEPING FAITH has juju in it but how many people think it is all about juju? The answer is who is the scriptwriter? Not a few women in the 21st century just because their husbands has to check some so called "celebrities" whom could'nt check themsleves? And hey, you pissed me off with that unneccessary na waa ooo.

well, rudeboy,
so now we know marketers get their wives to re-hash scripts. Ok, so what is it really that is preventing the "professional and talented script writers" from hooking up with equally professional and talented producers and financiers?

Let's face it, rudeboy, you hate the marketers and you hate their wives. You're fogetting that without the so called "marketers" & their investments, that script you're complaining about wont be worth more than the toilet paper wey you dey take.... If you're looking for someone to blame try blaming the so called "script writers" wey no stay in school long enough to learn the profession properly. Leave the marketers' wives alone! Women have suffered long enough in just about every society around the world!!!!!

My brother, you probably do not know anything about marketers or financiers. If they do not call you and tell you the stories themselves, whatever you write and give to them is at your own risk. No matter how good and professional you are, your script is not GOOD enough. I have no time to argue with anybody. Try this yourself. Find a good script and waka reach Kilo (Not even Idumota). Between Kilo and Agboyin are at least five marketers and one producer namely - Helen Ukpabio, OJ, Orange Seed, Hallmark, Elonel and KasVid. . Give them the EXCELLENT script, go home and return next day. Come here on NR and tell us how far.

Make una see me see Dsampler o! Face wetin again? I do not hate marketers! I even have very good friends who are marketers. But that does not stop me from saying what I feel. They are doing their business which is kind of crude and unpopular among so many people. We do not hate people but we may hate people dem game naw, comon! Very soon, better writers will find an approach to show their long awaited skills and not toilet paper wey you dey take.... People like you just de akata de blow grammar over the Internet. Try and find out wetin deh before you misquote. Meanwhile I agree with you that Women have suffered long enough in just about every society around the world!!!!!

If you have an EXCELLENT script in your possession, the last people you will want to hand it over to are the current marketers/traducers,i tell you. They will just destroy it for you!Or worse, they just go on to plagiarise it.
The best solution is just to keep it locked up in the drawers and wait for the right people to take control of nollywood.Something that most talented writers in naija are currently and wisely doing.
