I mean, if nollywood theme changes, what will it be about then? Space exploration? or Rocket Science in the 21st Century? Who's going to buy that in Africa? market women? or the Alhaji whom hasn't read a single book in 10 years?
Bottom line: Akos, you're asking for too much. If it aint really really broken, why try to fix it?

Same could be said for the science fiction films of America before we even had NASA

Not really. Now you do have to take real life stories and scale them down. Make it into a story for the screen, but it can be done. Thing is they have to do the research. Or not that get someone who has written their own life story either a novel, screenplay etc.

The best solution is just to keep it locked up in the drawers and wait for the right people to take control of nollywood.Something that most talented writers in naija are currently and wisely doing.
Or produce it yourself.

You know that happened in Hollywood. Script readers are supposed to read a script and decide if the studio should pass (happens with most scripts), consider or Recommend a script (that only happens about a few times a year) Anyways some folx decided to send in classics like the African Queen, Casablanca etc. change the names etc. and see what the script reader said. They passed on almost everyone, and these were supposed to be Classics.

That would be a good idea for Nollywood. Take oscar winning or nominated screenplays from early Hollywood and other award winning screenplays/stories to now and see what happens. Better yet stories from Chinua Achebe etc.

vince, f
or how long will one lock up good stories...a gold fish, they say has no hiding place..in this case, a good story...
some people have done well to produce good stories...i can count a few...
for instance...i jioned this forum because i want to corespond with the director, or producers of b4 the vow, or better still, the writer...i watched it recently...couldnt believe one could make a story out of almost nothing...i personally want to know how...hope it wasnt copied....because i watch some movies, and it is a replica of foreign films...
anyway, let us not encourage good writers to lock up their scripts...t hey must come forth...it will help the industry grow...
i am an aspiring writer and i know that nollywood has great stories...
take worlds apart for instance...so many movies have been shot around same theme...but this one stood out...why? lthe ittle details, that are so often overlooked...
anyway...lets hope for the best...
as for me, i encourage the professionals and the good storytellers to come out of their hiding places...
amen
