Review of King of The Town

King of the Town explores the vicissitudes of life encountered by Nigerians who relocate to America in search of the golden fleece. They were portrayed as engaging in all manner of demeaning jobs such as bathing corpses, washing plates in eateries, street sweeping etc; coupled with incessant harassments from immigration officials.

Majority of them perish in American jails while others die while perpetrating one crime or the other for survival, Chima (Desmond Elliot) continues to hide from immigration officials in his friend’s apartment until he ends up in refugee camp while his family back home in Nigeria is bedeviled with want and deprivation.

This movie partly shot in New York and Maryland USA is timely at this point when the young generation has lost faith in the Nigerian project and is queuing up eagerly at the American embassy for visa with the erroneous belief that America is the land of prosperity and prospects.

The makers of this film deserve applause for using the cinema medium to sensitize our youths and expose the predicaments that befall emigrants who desire to amass sudden wealth.King of The Town (All that glitters) is produced by Andy Nnadi and Directed by Simi Opeolua’a, starring. Desmond Elliot, Hans Anuku and Chard Knorr among others.
