Love for Love what is it about?
Love for Love is a new ground breaking, thought-provoking soap-opera to be shown in Nigeria. It’s not a regular soap, but a love story with lots of romance. In making a movie, there are certain things one must take into consideration.
First and foremost, there’s got to be a catching and compelling story and this is where Love for Love comes in. It’s going to be shot in fantastic locations with some of the very best hands in Nigeria as far as script writing, directing and production is concerned brought together to make this a viewer’s delight.
And in casting, the known faces are avoided except for one or two of them who feature for obvious reasons.
Love for love is what you will in future call the viewers’ delight for it has the colour of wealth, glamour, poverty, misery, and all that completes a good soap. For the first time, Nigerians will be exposed to the best of intrigues and suspense..
Why do you think Love for Love will make any difference considering the volume of soaps Nigerians have already been exposed to?
Love for Love is it this time. The soaps that have been played in the past have been great but perhaps it wasn’t their time. This is the time for Love for Love. Remember that there were so many movies and soaps, so to speak, ‘Living In Bondage’ came and it became a gateway to the present day home video development that we are talking about. When the time for a change comes, there is no stopping it. We’re not trying to be arrogant about it, but speaking seriously, we are deploying the very best in terms of all that is necessary or needed to ensure that the project of this magnitude is successful. The budget is huge and so are the personalities involved.
Do you think your soap can compete with the Mexican soaps that have flooded our air waves at present?
I put my integrity on the line and make bold to say what we are bringing on in Love for Love is going to outshine every other soap. Ours is a local brand that will have international acceptability appeal.Nigerians love quality, and I believe that Love for Love has so much to offer as far as quality and professionalism is concerned, be rest assured.
Quality alone doesn’t count for the success of soap, continuity matters. Do you think you can effectively market this so Nigerians would have continuity, something we’ve never had for more then four decades in the country?
One of the greatest challenges you know that movies or soap production in Nigeria has faced is that of sponsorship. I tell you that we are blessed with great writers, actors, directors and so on. For Love for Love, corporate sponsorship is secured, the funds are already in position, and the best of hands assembled. As we speak today, five renowned script writers and a consultant are locked away somewhere outside Lagos brainstorming to give a direction for Love for Love, such has never happened in the annals of soap production in Nigeria.
Was it necessary to lock away your script writers?
Yes, it’s important because they need concentration and so they don’t need to be distracted. One of the reasons that some of the works that we do, do not really come with its richness is because they are done in a hurry. This is one of the things we wish to avoid as we prepare for Love for Love.
Now the issue is what are you planning to achieve with Love for Love?
What we are basically planing to achieve in the first place is to further the vision of the federal government in expanding or complementing the opening of the entertainment industry in Nigeria. We believe that with the soap by extension, tourism will be enhanced. We also want to prove a point to the world that globally accepted brands can come from Nigeria. Love for Love is a proudly Nigerian initiative and it is an initiative that has all cast, script writers’ director, producer, editing and every aspect of the production done here in Nigeria.
So when are we expecting Love for Love to come on air?
What is uppermost for us at this stage is to ensure that the right structure is in place, we get the right story, and the best of hands in the industry. We can assure you that Love for Love will definitely come out in 2007. We don’t want to put our words on a particular date, but by the second quarter of 2007 we would have advanced greatly with the project.
