Bollywood Movies and guilty conscience

I recently came upon an online site where i watched "The promise", an old indian movie. Though I have watched it before, it total renewed my interest and I have been out renting movies for the past one week. I ha ve actually rented like Eight movies in less than one week. My probem now is that I am starting to feel guilty because I have almost lost interest in Nigerian movies. I have some new ones but the first few i saw was just a total waste of time and money that I did not bother seeing the rest. I can't help comparing the sophistication and the dedication they put into the production of these Indian movies with those of Nigerian movies. Though the storylines are just like those of Nigerian movies but somehow they just make them interesting. The actors are unbelievable Handsome. Lets not start with the actresses. My questions is am I wrong in giving up on Nollywood already?.

My dear,go where your heart and eyes take you,jo!There is no need to start feeling guilty about anything.
Nollywood flicks are just so sterile and dreary(especially visually) in their storytelling, and it is just a matter of time for what has just happened to you,to happen.I know because it has happened to me,too.

I am back into bollywood with a big bang.Like you've noticed, bolly flicks are more pleasing to watch because they are so visually sophisticated and compelling to see,not to talk of the much greater professionalism that goes into producing them.
MOVIES,MOVING PICTURES,MOVING IMAGES,MOTION PICTURES,all these terms come from using images to tell stories, and not have some actors sit around like logs of timber and verbalize from scene to scene, from start of a flick to the end, like nollywood homviemakers do all the time.
Simply put, nollywood offer way too little for it's audience to see, despite the long long playing time.

I have not completely abandon nollywood, but i am really filtering what i watch now.I only go for the major nolly releases these days,in any language genre.

I dont watch Nigerian movies, and not because i gave them up for any movie industry, I just think that most of them are crap. I feel no pangs of guilt whatsoever. It's not your fault that you are developing a taste for qualty.

What about korean flicks?Their visual sophistication surpasses that of hollywood, sometimes.
Hongkong has been in filmmaking business a long time,so they are expected to make worldclass flicks all the time.
What about china, proper?Another nation that produces woldclass cinema.

If not for my queen, I don't think I'll have any idea what Naija flicks are any longer. She is the only one that cop 'em and bring 'em home. As for me, I try not to miss my Tuesday Tuesday trip to Blockbuster, and I feel no guilt.

Nope I just bought quite a few indian movies within the last month, at three times the price for each that I spend on Niaja movies. Feeling guilty, not one bit.

Like you said, the stories are rather predictable (especially their romance, which is my favourite genre), but it is very well package. Incredible eye candy (male and female), lots of great music, incredible dancing all parceled in Indian outfits and culture (although this is getting more western since the days of yore).

Not once have I had to fast-forward, mentally wish for the story to get moving, use my remote to change the volume or any such nonsense. Funny thing is that, I hadn't watched Bollywood in over 10 years, so Nollywood leads me back to Bollywood. Even I couldn't have seen that coming. These days I read review thouroughly before I watch anything from Nollywood and I have not spent much at all this year on them.

Nollywood needs to seat up and take some lessons. PERIOD

The ones I got recently are:

Humko Deewana Kar Gaye
Kabi Khush Kabhie Gham
Veer-Zaara
Hum Del de chuke Sanam
Devdas

I am not sure how old these are since I just went to the store and pick them up. But here is another thread talking about bollywood movies with more titles that might be interesting to you.

Ahhhhh DEVDAS(2002) !, one of the BEST Bollywood movies of all times, I loved every second of this movie, even with the bad lighting throughout the entire movie. I must have watched it 8 or 9 times already, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is also excellent, its in my top 20 of Bollywood Movies, Veer-Zaara is a great movie.

Couple of Excellent Bollywood movies are:
-Mr. & Mrs. Iyer
-Kovil ( Its Actually Tamil)
- Murder ( A Remake of Unfaithful)
-Chameli
-Tere Naam
-Pinjar
-Phir Milenge
I am sure you will like them, Happy viewing !
