The problem with most nigerians is that they wait for the White man's approval, ONLY the white man can give a stamp of approval. Nollywood is 10 years old, comparing it to an established industry is not appropriate. ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY. You need to give credit to those who've decided to stay back home and build an industry that is now employing hundreds if not thousands who would otherwise have no job. Try to watch some hollywood movies made in the 20s and 30s. U'll get my point. I get infuriated when people like u who stay in states criticize effort made by others back home. They are trying, Years from now there will be a difference. I hate when people who don't know behave like they are pros. if it is that easy, why don't u go over and reform it.

They are two of the most brilliant actors of our time. YOu strike me as someone that doesn't believe that the actor's job is important or has any impact in the movie. You've seen it plenty of time, no amount of sophisticated camera move, special effects, etc can substitute for a good actor. Without great performances from the actors (especially your leads) to accompany the effects and camera moves, the movie will suck big time.
Yeah, they're seen more as the ladies men. The tabloids are all over them. But try and look past what you read or hear in the media. Sit down with their movies and watch them before, that's how you know they're important.
BB didn't say anything against the efforts being made. She pointed out that we make the loudest noise without nothing to show for it. They should't waste time and money going to Cannes, NOTHING in mainstream nollywood today is ready for Cannes, I'm sorry but nothing is, not even remotely close. BB had it right!

ohhhhhh teacher...me! Me! Me!
Basically sister mi, if you know like White Man's approval is what all we do then stop wearing jeans and stick to your buba/iro...skirt and blouse...bubu and gele for eternity especially in light of your very pro African stance
Hey BTW, did you know that "Uyai" means Beauty in Efik? I think we had that discussion already...forget it.

Make una continue to yarn joi. BB, TM KM, RS and all of you who are eloqently expressing what any intelligient person should appreciate and know - that accepting and praising CRAP is no way to help or move the industry forward.
When I read that news article, my first thought was What exactly are we showing in CANNES, whch movie are we showcasing? But NO... It is to go party and tell people 'Nigerians were here', for WHAT, doing WHAT. We sure know how to make noise and sometimes one wonders how we look at things and don't realize that we are embrassing ourselves.
I think this is the second thread this week discussing this issue. Keep it up people. No need for me to talk too much. My thoughts have been expressed quite clearly up there. THE INDUSTRY SIMPLY NEEDS TO CHANGE and CHANGE POSITIVELY PRONTO.

For more than four hours on Friday May 25, the party at the Nigerian pavilion got the whole of Cannes reverberating. It held at the instance of the African Movie Academy Awards, whose Chief Executive, Mrs. Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima, is known to spare no expense at making a statement.
Last November, she literally got the whole of Cape Town drunk at her AMAA party during the Sithengi Film Market, and in March, she stormed the FESPACO film festival with a private jet chartered specially to announce AMAA.
In Cannes, she achieved no less with endless stream of food, drinks and African music. The sexy London-based Nigerian actress, Funke Ajikawo, captured the scene so aptly: “Everybody became like animals. Civility broke down.” She was describing the tumultuous response of the guests, both black and whites, to the huge tilapia fish and fried plantain delicacies that Anyiam-Fiberesima had specially ordered from a Congolese caterer, which turned guests at the party to unrestrained gluttons.
“Our aim,” said Anyian-Fiberesima, “is to announce that Nigerian was here and that AMAA was part and parcel of Nigeria’s presence in Cannes this year.”

Thre rationale on this thread makes me laugh ....okay lets put it into perspective ..... ( Joi I go take u do analogy)
For instance if Joi wants to promote her plus size pageant....a new pageant she begun somewhere in .....lets say Kentucky. She decides she needs a good marketing plan to bring exposure to her new pageant ...she decides she wants to go to Equador where the Miss World pageant is scheduled to hold believing the world press and cameras will feature all the happenings in the area during this time. She holds a party and infact even though she is not sponsoring a model to the Miss World pageant she has successfully used a major event to shed light on the existence of her new organisation ..........Can someone tell me what is wrong with that fantastic marketing /media plan ????????????
Just because she went to Cannes we now know that someone called Anyiam Fiberesima and her AMA award show is in existence !!!
Who said you have to have a movie to submit to Cannes to actually represent there ....Im embarrassed by this thread ...even Mavy is that closed minded to be critical of Naija presence at Cannes??? Please what movie industry bible are ya all reading ???
Its like saying you cant walk into a trade fair except you have a product to display as per say there is a competition among the vendors !!!
So as per say our movies are so low standard (meanwhile mofos are still buying the movies oh) means naija has no right to step foot in the French Riviera and make their presence felt cos they make poor quality movies ?? Isnt there a Nigerian movie industry ...dont they plan to show case movies in the future at Cannes ? So Naija peeps are such nonentities that they dare not go show face in Cannes ??
Isnt that the more reason Naija folks should go to Cannes to see what other countries are showcasing ???
I bow for una oooh .... I bow !!!
maiuna try !!
