You should please read the first post before making "angry" comments.

And you should have been able to understand that my post was not directed at you, but the idea as well... An idea that is prevalent in black communities all over the world and not just in Nollywood.

The whole casting with colour thing doesn't apply with men... same in Nollywood as in Hollywood. If we take a look at Hollywood... and look at the darkest male actors compared to the darkest female actresses there is a noticeable colour difference. The darkest women are nowhere near as dark as the darkest men...
In Nollywood the problem isn't so much that as we have women and men who are as dark as each other, however in my opinion the "fantas" (I have never even heard that term before this board) are most definitely over represented.

Chocolate men for me any time any day. I love them. They are really sexy. Fantas **** me off. They behave as if they were so special, from the way they carry themselves on screen.
As Beautiful Soul has said that "black beauty" doesn't apply to the men: just look at K.O.K and Segun Arinze. These men aren't particularly handsome but they have acquired so much in the industry. I personally comsider them to be very charming and I would also like to see more charming ladies (even if they aren't Miss World) on screen.
Charm has nothing to do with beauty or colour and Nollywood should understand this.

Really? You think the yellow babes(fantas ) are over represented?
Because if I take a roll call of most of the mainstream actresses in the limelight, there is equal representation of all complexions, I dont even consider it a factor, so I have to look closely. When I enjoy Rita Domnic on screen it is first and foremost for her acting abilities and all other things like colour pale in comparison..Same goes for Genny Nnaji etc, I could care less if there where more Gennys and Less Ritas in the mix, or vice versa
So, I hear what you're saying B_Soul, but its never been a factor in my mind till Michelin opened this thread so maybe I should take a closer look. TO me at the moment its not an issue
COming to Hollywood, AFAMs(African Americans) have always had a problem with dark skinned females, my sister recalls watching my numerous MTV videos and always asks why these male R &B/Hiphop singers always seem to have more light skinned babes in their videos, but in black africa where all shades exist in conformity, this shouldnt be a problem abi? Even there again, I never really saw what the problem was

I really can't say about male actors, but it is quite possible.
In YMG the skin tone plays a very important role in casting female performers in lead roles, though.
You will struggle to see a leading YMG actress that is dark skinned.

It probably has never been a factor because it is what we are used to on a world wide scale. I only started watching nollywood about three months ago now and I was suprised that there were so many yellows and mixed race. For what is essentially a BLACK country... the yellows are over represented, especially in terms of lead roles... For instance in the ghanian films Nadia and Van often play the lead roles (Jackie too) and darker characters are just extras. That is just crazy to me... First ghanain film I watched I was like WHAT?
Its like watching a Japanese film and the main characters are close to white. It would be a bit ridiculous and if you had never been to Japan and this was all you knew of the country you would assume it was a country full of eurasion people!

As much as it is denied, whether consciously or subconsciously light skin is attached with beauty... In the same way in the white world blonde is attached to beauty.
A guy may ask his friend, "What does she look like? And the friend replies, "Oh she's blonde" as if blondeness equals beauty... the same thing goes for light skin... The same way the author of this thread titled it dsrk skinned BUT beautiful as if dark is by default unattractive...
