Nollywood: Dark-Skinned But Beautiful!

Maybe I am the one mentally masturbating myself but there is something I have noticed in the movie industry that somehow reflects the way we African percieve ourselves.
Has anyone taken time to ask why all the dark-skinned ladies are ecceptionally pretty unlike the light ones?
A lot has been discussed about skin colour issue but I can't ignore what i see on homevideos. I find it disgusting that a dark-skinned woman must be very pretty to be able to have success in the movie industry, while the yellow ones are picked even if they are "wowo".
Examples are Oge Okoye, Rita Dominic, Nkiru Sylvanus, etc... just to mention a few. To me these women are far from being pretty but yet they are compared to real beauties like Gene, Chioma, Uche, Bimbo, etc...
Of course we also have light-skinned goddess like Omosexy and SDA but they are ecceptions in this case.
Why is Nollywood so colour conscious?

I think that light skinned people... especially the mixed race ones are overrepresented in Nollywood... the curse of the colour complex lives on. I put in a film for my mother. She is Nigerian but doesn't watch the films and she was like, "What is this? Why is everyone yellow?"

Yes I know there are many yellow people in Nigeria but for someone who is not from the country and just watching the films they would think half the country is mixed race and that is definitely NOT the case.

They need to start promoting darker skin more and stop feeding into Westernised ideals of beauty... Having said that I am not dark and if I was offered a place in a Nollywood film I would say HELL to the YEAAAAAAH! LOL So I don't blame them... Everybody gotta eat!

As for the highlighted, her 'light-skinnedness' has had help from bottles and creams.

That aside, to the issue at hand, first of all, it's the issue of colo-mentality i.e fair is better (check out our African-American female entertainers esp. those who appear in soaps; they are all caramel in colour, even those who were dark at one time)

Secondly, the people bleaching their skins, what is their excuse? Who told them that being dark will not get them where they want (I've mentioned this before in another post )

Thirdly, the film makers claim being light-skinned makes for easier lighting - that in itself is not a lie but a filmmaker who is worth his/her salt should know how to light all skin types.

Additionally, if you know your worth, you will know that bleaching your skin will not ensure success and if you do not give into the pressure of producers who tell you to just 'tone up' a little but rely on your talent (that is if you have), with time, your worth will shine through and your success will be long-lived and you will age gracefully

the highlighted are exceptionally good in what they do and coming to their skin tone , nkiru is light skin by nature , oge would still be a pretty girl even with a dark complexion. as for rita, it came to my knowledge that she was a dark skin lady though hard to believe because I've always known her as a light person all the same her complexion is lovely.

I've met with chioma one on one she's not --------- but attractive likewise uche and bimbo they are all attractive

omotola is a dark skin lady go watch her debut mortal inheritance and even sda ...as the saying goes beauty is in the eyes of who ever wants to compare ....... I strongly believe it's your talent that will get you up there, keep you up there and not the complexion

I cannot imagine Rita being dark, or the other two for that matter... They don't look typically bleached. You don't see the signs on their neck and knuckles.

Yes I am.

I also wanted to add the the title of the thread suggests that dark skinned people are typically not beautiful. Shouldn't it be darkskinned and beautiful, rather than but. Wording makes all the difference.

How so... If you were quoting someone or somewhere I would understand.

Edited to say: After readin it again I can sort of see what your saying. I suppose I didn't get it because I didn't agree with you in the first place. I don't think many of the actresses light or dark are exceptionally beautiful. You have many beautiful ones and just as many which aren't as attractive. In my opinion!

You can't faill to note that most of the top dark-skinned actresses are really beautiful.
Most of the fanta ones are just there because of their colour.
That's my opinion!

lo. i was a bit confused wif the title. Cos it was as if the author was sayn that dark skinned people aren't normally beautiful!

as for the cast being predomitantly fanta, they say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Maybe, just maybe thats the idea of beauty in the eyes of the directors. I've never really noticed the link tho cos i think women like gloria anozie, omo t, younger eucharia anunobi, liz benson to name a few r pretty n imo tht has nuffn to do wif their complexion!
