We might make better movies...

I am here again. I am like goat who dearly wants to eat those cassava leaves. So, I am for action, thus people who are for action should join me here. This space is for everyone and no one is anyones boss. we all are matured and have opinions and experience. So, what is the use of talking talking talking? as my mom says jaw jaw.

when you go back to ressurect a post from two years ago, some self appointed too knowns tell u things like the search function is your friend. if something was said 2, two whole years ago, and what was said was the truth, and yet you insult an emmy winning DP when our industry does not even know what a DP stands for, and of course our products gets worse by the day. where are we going? and yet, instead of collectively doing something, everyone is challenging each other in who knows what best. it is stupid. if y'all have realised that there is a problem and you claim you have "nollywood" people on this space then by all means, lets get a way to get to to bring the tchidi chikeres, the actors, the camera people onto this forum to read at least once a week the comments their faithful viewers are making about their work.

I believe we have knowledgable people on this blog, who can contribute. I am from Ghana, and I have a good number of the Ghanaian producers on speed dial so, what I propose is that the moderators set a different departments on this space. I know others will say you have it already, that is not what I am suggesting. I am suggesting a very independent space, for them ony to come and read and ask us questions. the search function will be of no use to them in this maze when you have to match words exactly when perfoming a search. so for example a space for Nigerian Film industry scriptwriters section, directors section, DP, Camera OPS, costume, make-up. where we can go and say hey, somethings we want to see from this department, not critique but an online workshop.
then another section for film critique, yes, I know y'all have critiqued a bunch of films and you have a section for it.

I am suggesting a whole new pop up window for this thing. so, every film will be archived, critiqued according to a certain standard and then constructive advice offered. Thus, the writer, director can come here and read what we said about his movie. I can register some of my directors and send them a log in info, so once every week, check in with them or forward them the link to a movie of theirs which we critiqued. and chiege will definately change her diction. I have her email address among some other email address of some naija artistes and I can get more.

imdb.com is what the american film industry uses, let us also make one for Ghana and Nigeria. little drops of water make a mighty ocean lets get proactive and see what will happen.
Thanks. and sorry for typos.

First, how's Kemi a Ghanaian name? Or you just using it?

I totally agree with some of the thing you're talking about, NR had organize such in the past. Some of the problems we faced were technical problems (the guest were unable to log on), and we also had a problem having a schedule that most members could agree to. I think it will be a good thing to have again, things might be different this time. I think Oga Sola will agree to some of your suggestions too.

great suggestion
Yes you are right, Many of us have several questions for "some" of these producer/directors. However in the past One or two have already been on here to comment on their movies which were being discussed, which i commend them for. It at least shows they truly want to know what audience thinks (regardless of how hard they may take some honest critiques, which to me is always in in good faith - nothing personal).

Only if they are literate enough to converse on here in a civil manner.

Yes I said it... Most Naija producers are idiosyncratic illiterates and they only listen to themselves...

you're right... most Nigerians do not know what "DP" stands for.

maybe that's because in Nigeria (as in Britain) we say "DOP"

do the knowledge.

you sef, do you just take delight in challenging people with baseless arguments? how ignorant are you? or do you just like to fight?
there is no difference between a DP and a DOP. the term is a used anyway anyhow. the O just means of. and even in other english language abbreviations when OF is in the name it is not used. so if you know what DP stands for you should know, through COMMON SENSE, what DOP stands for and know they are one and the same. God save us!!!
and moreover when I made that statement, I meant they do not know the duties of a DP since they throw one light on the actors and yell action. they are not artsy in their lighting, forgeting that filmmaking is art.

hahaha, you are right. some of them will say we should take our book long far away. But I beleive that, the few who are open to learning or perfecting their craft will love and listen it will depend largely on our approach, first we say how what we loved about the film and what can be improved and back it with proof, pictures etc. One of my lighting and field profs always says if you hit pause on your TV and they image on the screen does not look like a painting, the lighting is wrong. experiment with a hollywood film and a naija film and you will believe it. I have done it a couple of times and i could see the difference, BUT, one naija movie stood out in that Rising Moon with onyeka owenu. it was too long, 3 parts, and the stroy structure was not my favourite BUT, it was very artsy.
