Folks should remember the late Cyprian Ekwensi was an Igboman, yet, a few of his novels were set in northern Nigeria. The novel 'Burning Grass' for instance, was set among the nomadic Fulani ethnic-nationality. 'The Pasport of Mallam Illiya' was another novel of his, this time the a drama took place in northern Nigeria, while the characters were of the Hausa ethn-national group.

I forgot about him.

What was his background? Was he born and brought up in Hausa-Fulani land?

May his soul rest in peace but he was never one of my favourite novelists. I just couldn't get into his novels at all.

Everything is just so unilateral and quite sad that whenever another tribe that is not one of the major is involved all we hear are stereotypes and stupid names:

who can forget Ekaite, Efe, Itohan and so on and so forth. I am from a minor tribe and feel very little rappresented in Nollywood!

What can we do to promote a more colourful Nollywood?
You lost by saying the word "tribe", we're in 2008 it's called ethnic group.

He may have gone to school in the north, but am not too sure about that.
I know he carried out in depth research into the Fulani culture before writing burning grass.

Methinks Ethno-national Group or Ethnic Nationality/Ethnic Nation.
Same difference maybe.
