Independent film distribution
A book called The Insider's Guide to Independent Film Distribution has just arrived, ordered from Amazon.
I hope it has worthwhile info as I am trying to make sure i have as many neccessary variables ready to stand a greater chance for foreign distribution.

Distribution is one thing I think I should totally leave for the professionals to handle. So I can concentrate on my area of specialty which I think is over tasking enough. So I'm not sure I will be reading that book.

I agree. I would love to leave the business side of this film industry to someone else and focus on the creative and most filmmakers will say the same. But the reality is an indie filmmaker will have to have knowledge of that unless they are sponsored by a studio or already have some distribution in place.
The basic thing is - how to get your movie in the market. Most indies think, i'll put it though the festival route but those routes are not guaranteed for a sell unless it's the major festivals and those are major competitive.
This book also addresses film financing sources but a large percentage focuses on what to consider even before you start pre-production for your film to stand a chance.
Some interviews with acquisition people. I guess for me I need my mind to also have in it the business side to this whole thing.

I understand what you mean, I think you are right in a way. Knowledge in film making is so vast, that I'm struggling to remember every aspect of what I've learnt, especially now that I'm yet to start working to have a continious practical feel, save the screen writing.

I will check the book out. I'm actually doing a Business Management program and my Market Distribution Assignment was on Indie Movies. There is a lot of break down you have to do, strategic planning and logistics. Your distribution could be two ways, Bottom up or Top Down. Both approach will take different advantages and it also depend on who your target market is, what figures can you capitalize on within that market (Pricing also comes in). You have to deal with competitors and find a way to beat piracy. All has to be done in figures and cash values. Whichever way, Promotion will play a major roles as well.
Force you are right, making movies is complicated enough but if you can take the energy to drill yourself about Market Distribution, it will give you a good confidence to get investors to support your project, because they know their money is coming back with profit, given goal duration you set for yourself based on the calculation and different distribution avenue you can use to recover the money back. There are just many ways to make money through movies, you just need to know it and capitalize on it.
I will see if that book covers anything on foreign films distribution and what capacity of distribution, distribution approach and what demographic the author going to be focusing. Seriously, I doubt if he will cover international outlets.
