9 to 5 (
see here) meets taming of the shrew, meets romantic comedy, abi na romantic tragedy, because that is what it became.
It started well, but got ridiculous towards the end, actually in the middle. Once again, nice premise, but it was very illogical. Truly very illogical. If all you want is romance and lots of kissing, this is the movie for you. Otherwise, its just weird, makes no sense.
Stephanie Okereke is Jo, head of a company once owned by her dad. Uche Jombo plays her dads (Justus Esiri's) girlfriend. Uche and Steph are best friends, but Steph hates the fact that Uche is dating her dad, trying to replace her mom. Therefore Steph's and uche's characters do not get along at all. There is a catfight or two in there somewhere. Steph is also very illmannered and rude to everyone and she is universally hated, particularly in her office where she treats everyone like crap. Chidi Mokeme plays Jake, who works for her and who has a fling with the office secretary. Eventually, someone kidnaps Jo to teach her a lesson.
The story was fine right up to the kidnap, then it goes to hell from there. There was some witty conversation, and a few laffs, but mostly it was strange. The foiled escape was just silly at best, and everything that happened after that left me scratching my head.
Its our own naija version of Nine to five, but once again, no internal consistency. Looks like writers, producers and directors never seem to ask this question: Does it make sense for this person to act this way? Is it logical?
Because while there was a lot of kissing in the movie, there was not much rational human behavior. Well love dey turn persin head sha o!!
Anyways, it was entertaining, which is the point of a movie. Chidi and Steph did a good job acting (not their fault that story get k leg).
I recommend with caution - watch for romance, not for sense o, otherwise you will be disappointed.
