YORUBA movie producer, Alade Aromire, is dead. He died in an accident in Lagos Friday evening. The actor turned producer and director was said to have ran into a parked vehicle close to the Eyo statue along Maryland-Ojota Road on his way to Mowe.
ANTP source said Alade did not see the vehicle and he rammed into it dying instantly, while another version had it that bus drivers who saw his body on the road, on recognising it was Alade, took him to LTV8 for assistance only to be turned back by security officers and that he died as they drove him to the nearest clinic.
“He was driving home to Yotomi Golden Estate in Mowe, his estate, when the incident happened. We have been asking the government to do something about truck drivers who park their vehicles carelessly on the road, endangering the lives of others.
“It’s rather sad that a lot of Nigerians lose their lives not through their faults, but the carelessness of others”, he lamented. Plans to immediately bury the actor according to Islamic rites were purportedly stalled by Jide Kosoko, however, as the ANTP National President prevented well-wishers form doing so on Saturday.
As his corpse was being taken away for burial around 11 a.m. on Saturday, the Sunday Tribune source said Kosoko instructed the pall-bearers and others to stop the burial for undisclosed reasons.
Efforts to reach Kosoko proved abortive as his phone was switched off. Same for Dele Odule and Feyikemi, his close friends.
A movie editor who was part of the team that had earlier taken Aromire’s corpse for burial told the Sunday Tribune that Kosoko stopped the burial because he wanted something more befitting for the late theatre practitioner.
“Jide has instructed that a burial committee be formed and we have decided to meet at the LTV8 in Ikeja. “What he did was to honour Alade, it was not to spite anybody. In fact, Alade had converted to a Christian long before the accident, though he was born into a Muslim family”, he informed.
The burial is now fixed for July 17 and 18.
Alade was preparing for the commissioning of his estate on July 15 before he died last Friday.
