G.W.Play's Ebbe Bassey in Harlem Fest Film

Hey Forum Fam,

Doing a bit of publicity for my cousin Ebbe Bassey. She will appear in the Showtime Network short film "A Spoonful of Sugar" by Yale/NYU film graduate Andrea William at the Harlem Film Festival AND the Burkina Faso Film Festival: Fespaco this upcoming Match. If you live in New York, please go out and show support AND if you live in Burkina Faso - back up a sister.

The Gist: Its about a 14 year old Jamaican girl who is being peer pressured into having sex but the problem is that she is HIV+ and so is her mother who has to try and steer her in the right direction. Its educational and inspiring because not often do we see the HIV problem discussed from the view point of a teenager who got it through no fault of their own. The mom is played by Cross Riverian actor, Ebbe Bassey who made her Nollywood debut in the film Games Women Play. If y'all thought the girl could yan Yankee convincingly for Games Women Play, come see am yan Jamaican accent, you no go know say na Calabar girl. The girl is versatile. Nollywood is sleeping on this one, S.L.E.E.P.I.N.G!

Da 411: March 5th (Saturday) @ 7.30 pm. Aaron Davis Hall @ City College of New York. West 135th Street and Convent Avenue, New York NY 10031
Tix: $10 for this film and three other wonderful works.

Yes, she is Nigerian from Cross River State. And the movie is not only good, its educational and inspiring. Its about a 14 year old Jamaican girl who is being pressured to have sex but the problem is that she is HIV+ and so is her mother who has to deal with her raging hormones. The mom is portrayed by Ebbe. It is not often that the problem of HIV is shown from the view point of a teenager who got it through no fault of their own and how it impacts their lives.
