Opeyemi Ayeola is of actress who has carved a niche for herself in the Yoruba movie industry.On account of her hardwork and intelligence,she has broken all barriers to be rated as one of the best Yoruba movies actress today.The profile of the humble and good looking actress who is in her mid 20s,has continued to rise day by day.In a recent chat with Oyekoya Afolabi,she opened up on her career and lifestyle.
How do you defend the allegation that you are arrogant?
Well, I didn't expect that soon. Anyway, I would say I. am not arrogant at all. People just don't seem to understand me. You see, the point is that I am very reserved. I care a lot about my dignity which I can't just throw away anyhow. Though I have heard a lot of people talk about it but they all don't know me. If they do, they wouldn't be saying so.Really, the point is that sometimes, people might expect you to hang around them and gossip but my nature doesn't permit such. You know when you don't do like every other person, there is every possibility that they say things about you.
Again, there is another allegation that you disrespect your elders in the industry?
(Laughs!) As far as I am concerned, I respect everybody. Respect is reciprocal. If you respect the younger ones, they will give it back to you. I grew up in a family where we all call ourselves by name but still, we give each other the due respect. But I don't understand why in the industry, someone likes to be called 'aunty so so... , it shouldn't be like that. I can respect you without calling you aunty. We all came from
different backgrounds and if we have met here as one big family, we should learn how to respect and appreciate each other.
So, tell us about your background.
Like you know, I am Opeyemi Aiyeola. I was born in the 70's. I am a native of Makim Sagamu in Ogun State. I did my Secondary School in Sagamu, that is, Remo Secondary School, Sagamu. Then, I went to Ogun State Polytechnic in 98 to study Accounting. Presently, I am in my final year at the Lagos State University, Lagos State, studying Accounting.
You sounds like someone that wants to practise Accounting
Sure, it is my dream to be an Accountant, I am proud of it. I feel contented when I think of it that my dream of being an Accountant is coming true and the other thing I love doing and I'm fast growing in, is acting.
So, how do you intend to combine the the two?
Well,I know God is always there for me,he leads me the right way each time I need to make a decision.Afolabi,you see, I am not going to be an actress forever, I'm not saying I won't be in the Showbiz industry but don't you think if 1 have to take a look into tomorrow (future) I should secure it? You understand what I mean? I need the knowledge, the enlightenment and as well as the intelligence so that I can build a good foundation for my future. Education is an important key to success. If you have it, you need not worry yourself, because your future is bright. So, I would say I will combine the two by doing the right one at the right time. So, how did you start acting? Well, I went to visit my kid brother in school then at Wale Adenuga's school. I saw people shooting some scenes. So, I decided to hang around and watch what they were doing.
Surprisingly, late Yomi Ogunmola walked up to me and said he wanted to use me in one of his movies. I thought it was a joke but at the end, it happened to be true. So, since then, I started appearing in movies till I became a well known face.
For the kind of education your parents wanted you to have, did they not complain about it?
Anyway, my dad is late but my mum is such an understanding woman. I talked to her and she accepted. She is the kind of person who believes that we all deserve the chance to explore our talents and work on it. I love her with all my heart, she is the best mother on earth. .
Let's talk about your movies?
My first movie was Ojo Eeye, I got a 'waka pass' role in it, but the first lead role I played was in Aso Iye by Rotimi Makinde. But really, I would like to thank God because I have been able to shoot and release my first ever movie, Sweet Banana.
What is it about?
You see, it is a movie that was written to the reality of life. Prostitution is one thing people believe that is only the girls from poor homes that do it to earn a living. If I must confess, from my investigation while writing the script, I realized that children of the rich and famous are much more into it. Why? Because they are adventurous and they believe because their fathers are rich, they can get away with anything even if caught with drugs or weapons.
You seems to have made a fortune from the movie because you just acquired a car.
Well, I can't stop thanking God because without him,it wouldn't have happened. I would say I'm very comfortable right now if not rich. When year 2003 started, I prayed to Him and told Him what I wanted and he did it. Year 2004 is here again, he has created me to prosper and be successful in every little thing I do so I would say nothing has happened yet (smiles).
Let's get personal, who is the Prince Charming ?
Prince charming? Right now, he is not there and even if there is, I won't tell you.
You mean you are seriously searching?
No!!! I didn't say that, I'm just like a beautiful rose in the garden of Eden and you know beautiful roses are always guarded by thorns, so I'm just waiting for the patient, intelligent man to get the rose without a cut on his hand.
How would you describe your kind of man ?
(laughs) Na wa oh! Anyway, surely I like a good looking, dark-complexioned man, who is God fearing and knows how to treat a woman right. He must be an intelligent man who I can always learn from. He must be friendly, kind and jovial.
How soon do you intend to get married?
It won't be a big deal. As usual will always do the right thing at the right time. When it is right, I will send you a letter.
Okay, there is a rumour that you are pregnant for Baba Suwe?
Ha! Ha! (laughs loud) I have heard it too. People have called me to ask but as you can see, I'm not pregnant.It is not something someone can hide,if 1 am you will know. I wonder where they got the story from.
What is your relationship with him?
He is just like a father to me and nothing more. He is a big colleague of mine. Someone I can always turn to for support
and advice.

What is your definition of beauty?
As far as 1 am concerned, there are different kinds of beauty.. Physical beauty is that which everyone knows, but there is one that is superior to it.1 mean the real beauty is in the mind. This is the kind of beauty that can make the sad happy, make the poor rich, and which can put smiles on everyone's face.
So, would you say you are beautiful?
Yes, sure, I am because 1 always wanna put smiles on other peoples' faces, make them happy and rich you know, it doesn't have to be money.
How have you been able to maintain your physical beauty?
That is a million dollar question,but I would say,little stress,eating good food,use the right cream for my skin and light make-up. As you can see, my skin is smooth and fresh. A beautiful woman does not have double or triple colours on their skin and do not apply too much make-up.
How would you describe yourself?
1 am an easy going person, kind, humble. I take life as easy as 1 can, never accept defeat because I'm not a failure. 1 could be strict sometimes because 1 was brought up to be a disciplined lady.
How has stardom affected you ?
It has affected me both - positively and negatively. Positively, it has opened a lot of doors for me, 1 can easily walk into a lot of places and not be stopped. Negatively. a lot of rumours are being carried about me which makes me shiver.
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
By then, I would have gotten married with kids. I don't see myself as an actress anymore by then, maybe as a Producer, because 1 would really want to spend time with my family.
