Avid was the first platform I got my hands on when I first started editing...waaaaay back in the shhhh....then I switched to Apple Final Cut because it was more user friendly...then I switched to Premier cos PC was cheaper than Mac...then I switched back to Final Cut because it was easier....back in the day you almost had to have an advanced degree from MIT to use Avid, I hope it's more user friendly these days..

I did my learning with Avid too and it was a complex PITA. Now I guess they are pretty much as similar as each other.
