In a year when mainstream Republicans have mostly bested tea party-backed challengers, a little-known and little-funded tea party challenger in Virginia's 7th Congressional District pulled the upset of the year, defeating House Majority Leader Eric Cantor by 10 percentage points.

The victory by economics professor Dave Brat gives the tea party an instant jolt of energy, sends shock waves through Capitol Hill, shakes up the GOP House hierarchy...

MORE

This will teach Cantor not to ever offend TM again...

I live in his district and let me tell you, it was a SHOCK!!!!
in my neighbourhood there were about 6 Brat signs on my street alone! but we didn't think this was going to happen, because Cantor had this thing pretty much sewn up, we thought.
you could see the incredulous look on the news anchor's face when she broke in to announce that Cantor had lost.
