if you ask my candid opinion,

Genevieve Nnaji needs to STOP putting her career in the hands of Emem Isong and Desmond Elliot if she ever wants to go anywhere diaspora movies. Desmond Elliot cannot direct a chicken let alone a human being.

I have seen all the movies he has directed and none of them have any depth or technical expertise. We know already Emem Isong makes makes shallow, kitchen sink dramas.
I have seen almost all the hyped Genny movies except Tango with me and NONE of them live up to the hype. Ije was an amatuer story, Mirror boy was blaise, Bursting out, the least said about plagiarized material the better.
so we know Bola Aduwo got her on CNN but, she really owes them no obligations to continue taking part in this shallow shallow movies. Monalisa can't act, Beverly Naya can't act, Uti can't act, Ini is good once she's not playing a polished city girl. Yes, the movie will have hype and people will dress in loub shoes and attend the premiere and after that what? will it go to a festival? what kind of festival? disorganized, unrecognized monaco? we really need to start rubbing shoulders with the world! premiering a movie on London, Houston and Boston to your fellow Nigerians does NOT make your movie good. cheap publicity and cheap attention.

Genny really needs to find a director who can do it for her.

Dang! Take it easy girl. We must also take into consideration that its not that easy to find meaty roles. If 'Ije' and 'Mirror boy' arent good enough, then it isnt Genny's fault. Maybe those are the better of the lots available presently. Isnt it better than her acting in the 'Lady Gaga's' 'Black berry babes' etc kinda movies.

The babe don try in terms of being selective sotey her movies in the last three years have dried up and people have been clamouring for more. So if you ask me, i'll say she sticks with these movies that are slightly better than what Nollywood is used to.

And i also read in one of her recent interviews where she said that Nollywood is the industry that discovered her and so she will continue to work there and promote it. These producers you complained about are the best we have now. If she doesnt act in the movies based on standard, then maybe your advice is that she stuck to attending high profile events and endorsements only. But as long as she'll make movies, she'll have to settle with the best of the lot which might be 'crap' to someone like you.

And need i say that a whole lot of peeps are seriously looking forward to this 'weekend getaway' movie, so that in itself is a good thing.

Angela, your posts really is kinda scary..... I've not watched all the latest movies....Ije, Tango, Mirror boy etc.....but....I know you as one of the few people that say it as is. And hmmm...... I'm concerned about Genny now for real....
because peeps are saying she is changing in acting, BUT, it could be the roles and the directing....right?

considering the cast, i'm not surprised people are looking forward to it. I myself i'm looking forward to it. but lets illustrate something here:

Genny was on CNN and mentioned on Oprah, right? now. maybe some hollywood shot somewhere has heard her name and they say to one of their interns, look into this person. the intern looks and sees some of the movies on youtube or orders some. once that intern cannot sit through 10 minutes of the movie, what do you think the intern will say to his boss? PASS. you get my point?

lets take Omotola or Ebbe for example who starred with Kimberly Elise. Everybody around Kimberly has seen them and has heard about them at this point. if the movie Ties That Bind is good, and rumour has it Ebbe Bassey has people looking at her already from the film, do you think it will not boost someones career? look at slumdog or apocalypto. those unknown actors are today stars repped by major companies.

to continue saying that these are the good ones we have, these are the good ones we have is a lazy mans excuse. Emem is a damn good producer. much better than she is a writer so, get someone to write!! get a writer who can break the box. Desmond can't direct cos he can't even act, so get a director who understands depth and technique.

Genevieve can decide this story has no depth and suggest alternatives. Unless of course she has no palette herself. we keep clamoring over the hollywood films and stars. about time they also started clamoring for us!

just my tuppence.

You are late o! I bin dey fear for am since since! What Angela81 is saying is no shade, it's the truth! At one point it was her playing herself as a good and bad twins then it became rich, executive who wonders why she can't find love when she's as frigid as Lake Michigan on a cold winter's morning and she's been on that ride for a long while now. Listen, I understand if she no wan go durty herself in Asaba village but heck I am sure she can get down and dirty right there in Lagos with the right script but obviously there isn't any or something to that effect.

I have never liked movies with too many stars in Hollywood or Nollywood, this will be on my must miss list.

@ Angela81 - Desmond Elliot cannot direct a chicken let alone a human being. YOU are SO WRONG for this one! JESUS!:roll

My dear, E never tey wey I begin watch Nollywood movies seriously. Na as I find myself costuming for Nollywood, na him I begin catch up on movies. Because when dem don ask me like twice "have you watched my last movie?" and I draw blank face.

na crash course on Directors and Producers and actors I dey do since last year so O! And from the ones I don watch-on-catch-up, Genny seems to be in the classy, romantic roles.
I actually love Mercy Johnson as my Numero Uno actress after I see her sling that goat over her shoulders! Mbraah! I bow! Na dat kain versatility I dey trip for.

Genevieve I am sure must be craving for a CHALLENGING role! She really must be tired of same ol' same ol' roles.
That she is talented is NOT in question, even me, am looking forward to something sharp sharp bam from her! We saw a little bit of another part of her in 30 Days (as a bad, agile chick), but that was not developed too well IMHO.
I see Genny as an Angelina Jolie (action roles)....I pray she gets a role that would show that other part of her that fits her athletic physique.

More Zoe Saldana ala Columbiana than AJ in Lara Croft...she is the same type as Zoe Saldana.

Let Genny do Genny... So the fuck what she doesn't work the the Ghanaian lady?! So!?! Let her do her... Not everyone wants to be Zoe Saldana...

Ebbe has been good and on US TV and movies loooonnng before The Tie That Binds... She was an accomplished great actor waaay before any of Lelia's movies.. Her time will come with or without The Tie That Binds... Hell Ebbe had a film at Cannes! Her own film!!.... She didn't need the Tie That Binds to be noticed....

I am sick and fucking tired of hearing about the how Genny should have worked with Lelia.. Is she the only director or movie maker out there?? Give me a fucking break... Omotola worked with her. Great!! Kimberly Elise too!? Awesome.. Ebbe too? Wonderful! Genny didn't... So!!?

Let Genny do Genny, let Ebbe do Ebbe, Omotola do Omotola.....

I think I have seriously missed something here. It is because of this kind of , hypocritical, I know better and I'm wiser, storm in a teacup comments that I stay away from NR. bia, curse all you want but don't curse at me.

Where is it that my post said Genny should have worked with Leila? Is Leila the only good director? What about Kunle Afolayan? Tunde Kelani? Has she worked with any of them? When was the last time she worked with Andy Amenechi or Izu? Before you wet your bed, lay plastic covers. Read and have clarity.

So what if Ebbe has been doing well? So, what memorable thing has she done? You want her to continue doing underground work or does she desire exposure for her talent? Doesn't she deserve it just as any other actor? I am now hearing from you about Cannes. 80% of the time, this industry thrives on who not what. (and before you cut me, I don't consider Miss Djansi a "who") I say that to butress my point about the exposure that will come from co-starring with someone like Kimberly.

It is the dream of every actor to play a lead in a major movie. I illustrated a point using the most easily available resource. That Kimberly is about the biggest collaboration to date. People around Kimberly have now heard of Omotola and Ebbe and from what I heard based on Ebbes performance, she is going to make an impact IF the movie is good enough to make an impact.

Therefore, Genevieve Nnaji needs to be selective and stop putting her career in the hands of people who do NOT want to change and learn new things.

How exactly did my comment warrant that outburst from you? or did my post say something agaisnt Genny? if you had said something in defense of Desmond or Emem I won't be tickled. But in a post that actually has good intentions for Genny.... who on earth will even think I want Genny to work with Leila? then what will I have to gloat over :)) ?

Abeg eh. Scratch your own itch. My hands can't reach that far!!

why am I even bothered! she can go work with Ken-Steve anuka or any of the other hand-held movie or Lady gaga directors for all I care!! hiss!!

Angela, I don't don't actually care what you intended with your post. It is your opinion and you have a right to have it. Just as I have a right to mine.. And mine is:

Who the fuck cares?! Let everyone do them....

If Genny want to works with Desmond and chickens, that's her business. If Ebbe needs Lelia for exposure, that's her call. Kimberely, no Kimberly. Omotola, no Omotola... So the fuck what....

I can simply disagree with you in any language I choose to use.

Scratch your own yeast infection... I'll stick to Monosil..

That's my $0.02 and I got a lot more change.
