I talked to 4 different guys last night, two married and two single (three naija and one Ghanaian), all of them have the same story - African guys esp naija guys don't propose. And all these guys are people you'd consider sophisticated gentlemen.

So guys, is it in our culture to propose to gurls. Ladies, has any of y'all ever been proposed to.....officially?

On a serious note, I don't think Naija men propose either. When I broke up with my ex, one of my complaints was that he never romantically propose to me. I groused about how he never went down on a knee at the Eiffel tower but just asked to see my parents. He wanted us to go to Naija to do the traditional thingy.

However, browsing the numerous Naija wedding websites of today, the contrary seems to be the case. It seems Naija men are as a matter of fact doing it the colonial way.

LOL @Eiffle tower's proposal. You're one romantic babe, Peaches. Seriously, to most guys, stuffs like that are not priority. And moreover, those engagement rings aren't cheap either. I went to Macys last Friday to check 'em out. Y'all won't believe this but the average price of a good diamond ring is $50K. Matter of fact, the one I actually wanted to get was priced at $80K minus 15% discount. In fact, most of my dream rings were over $100K.

Gosh! That would make a down payment on a house, even get me my dream car - Caddillac Escalade. So that's really tough but we shall see sha. Thank God I have a $100K limit on my credit card. That card will come in handy now:)

LOL, it's funny you said that b'cos I might go that route myself.....if care is not taken. I might invite my GF over to make me an African food and, while enjoying the dish, I will drop the bomb on her. I will like:

...mmmm.....this fuud is sooo delicious. Let's get married....I'd like to eat something like this efry day.

All these elabrate $100K diamond ring proposal with karaoke music and video camera in the background is too much detail for me:P

MACY'S?!?!?!?!?! :shock

LuvM, how can an experienced lover-lover-man like yourself, go to Macy's for engagement ring??!?! Haba big papi...... You supposed to get the ring from somewhere she fit brag to her friends.... That's like buying you Benz from a Hyndai dealership... sweat: (just messing with you Bros...)

But there is actually this big push in the states away from diamonds to avoid purchasing conflict diamonds. A friend told me about www.ziamonds.com, where celebrities like Oprah, Tom Cruise and Jessica Simpson are designing cubic zirconia jewelry....

I wish this was around when I bought a Tiffany's ring and proposed in Paris... Seriously I really did! One bended knee and all.. And no, we did not get married. The engagement broke off.... smokin:

Gosh! Sidney, why didn't you show me this website last week? I'm not sure they would take it back since they have already resized itsweat:

And by the way, did your ex gave you back the stone when y'all broke up? I mean, I'm not big in taking back gifts but I have to when the gift is worth tens of thousands of $$$
