Nominated for an ‘African Oscar,’ Estella Ogbonna Looks for Confab to Bring Her Work to an American Audience

Washington, D.C. Thursday, September 6th – A broad smile went across Estella Ogbonna’s face as she explained what the Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards are: “Just like the Oscars, NAFCA was set up to award great performers in the industry. And I feel very honored to be nominated for Best Costume for my work on the movie ‘Stolen.’”

“Nollywood” is the Nigerian Film industry, the 3rd largest film industry in the world, and Ogbonna has found a lot of success working in Africa’s rising film culture. Their awards on the 16th of September in Durham, North Carolina will give her a chance to cement herself as an icon in the industry.

But she’s not resting at all. As costume designer on the new Washingtion, D.C. web series ‘Confab,’ Ogbonna is excited to bring her award winning work to an American audience. She put it plainly, “‘Confab’ is my first Costume work outside the mainstream African movies industry.”

“She took right to it,”‘Confab’ creator Erik Cieslewicz added, “The show has a lot of jokes crammed in, including visual gags in the costumes. Estella, like any writer, actor or other creative on set, will get lots of laughs with her work. She got the humor and added to it.”

“To hear that she’s produced critically acclaimed work is not a surprise, I saw her do it first hand.”

Estella had equally high praise for her first American production: “Being on the set of ‘Confab’ will still remain one of the best moments of my work history. Such professionalism, passion and creativity! Attention to details! Dedication from cast and crew! What can I say? it was amazingly fun!”

‘Confab,’ created by Cieslewicz, is slated for release the in the coming months. Currently in post-production, the series stars Caroline O’Grady, Joshua Dick, Christian Campbell and Laura Muschelli as four college juniors going through the most dramatic semester of their lives. The series is a throwback to the glory days of the sitcom, from Cheers to Friends. Produced by Ali Walton, Kevin Finkelstein and Paul Schadd, ‘Confab’ is a Frozen Penguin Productions, LLC project.
