Bored interviewer with boring interviewee...what a good dose of YAWN. Raking so much in and not able to say just one charity you align with? You give back by recommendation? Yeah, very intelligent she is... NOT!!!
Well, first of all... The Bible says that if you give to charity, you should do it in secret and not try to get kudos for it. Personally, I am very skeptical of these Hollywood philanthropists who feel the need to broadcast all the good work they do so we can all praise them for being wonderful people.
Secondly, can I say I have always HATED when interviewers pose that "how are you giving back" question to celebrities as if it's some sort of obligation? If someone has worked hard to achieve something, it's their own accomplishment and not something that everybody has to share in.
It reminds me of when I go home and all kinds of distant relatives I don't even know and random people come looking for a handout, demanding in so many words that I "give back" to the community because I've supposedly done so well in obodo onyibo. But I can't "give BACK" to someone who didn't give me anything in the first place! What did these people give me? If anything, a lot of these folks were the ones who tried to discourage me when I had certain ambitions, so I don't think I owe them jack. The people I *might* owe are my parents, maybe one of my uncles and two or three of my teachers... Anybody else, if I feel like giving them something, I will. But it's not mandatory.
It would be admirable if Genevieve decided to use all her fame and money to build orphanages and tar the roads of her hometown, but she doesn't HAVE to. The only thing she OWES her fans is
a) to continue to make entertaining movies that will be worth their money
b) to be courteous and respectful of them
Anything else is extra.
All that said, I don't think the interview was that great. As already mentioned, she came off a bit nervous and uncomfortable, and she didn't say too much that was particularly enlightening. But the fact that she was called to do the interview at all remains an achievement in itself.
