Thressa, read my posts again my sister. Who said anything about not liking it. I simply LOVED the movie. Sure there were some stretched scenes like the party scenes but in all, I ACTUALLY DID ENJOY THE MOVIE. Loved the romantic scenes too. A lot of touchy touchy and kissy kissy. Better than all those stilted kissing/pecking scenes we see. BTW, has anyone seen BURNING DESIRE with RMD and SDA? I have the part 1 and 2 but I want to know if it is worth my while.
It's a good movie in my OWN opinion o especially with Michael Ozuoruonye starring in it. Dat dude does it for me at any time.

I just watched this movie and yeah it was good, acting also good from Uche Jumbo, Danielle Allen and the other chic. I was impressed with the Danielle Allen chic as well. She actually made me cry with the scene where she was talking about the child abuse issue.

I am a big fan of Emem Isong, she has never dissapointed me yet but this one was one her poorest, sorry Khami. I was all into until it came to the end?!@ The end was absolutely off.
Ans ame dis:

1. Why after all the drama from spoilt girl - Calvert with Bob Manuel seeing Miss Valerie Johnson while he was supposed to be engaged to her ( Calvert ), nothing happened. I was expecting Calvert's dad to do something devasted after finding out Bob broke off the engagement? NOTHING HAPPENED?@@!. And the way Calvert kept going on and on about my father this, you will be terminted this...in the end Nothing?? Made no sense

2. Also after all Samantha's rantings after she found out her girlfreind was seeing her bobo..what happened? She hooked them up in the end?? HUH???

3. After Bob just ditched the girl after hearing about the child abuse scandal, in the end he gets on one knee and homegirl agrees just like that after she swore never to deal with men again. It just looked so contradictory.

It just seems they did not think of a better way to end it. The ending totally ruined it for me. They ruined a perfect movie!!errrrrh! I hate it when they do that!!!!
After the movie, I sat there for 15mins trying to understand if I missed something?? Did I miss something here?Somebody help me understand.

And why the hell did they give it a title " Girls in the Hood" for crying out loud. It has absolutely nothing to do with grils living in the hood????!#!$$%#

And stop stereotyping naija men!Not all naija men can be or are the same. What's the big deal about that action? There are 10s of thousands of naija men who could've done and can do that in real life.
I agree vince...

also I dont see anything wrong with a man doing that. I think it is kind of sexy when a guy who likes you and vice versa takes charge like that and not saying Can I kiss you? lol heheh

Finally seen this.

Well, months after you guys have seen this homvie,i finally watched it myself yesterday.Hmmm,i see why some folks called it a girlie homvie.I felt like i was intruding as a guy while i was watching.
Cool homvie, really liked it.Script is solid;acting very good;dialogues well above the usual crap we get from the other EMG homvies;relatively free of plot gaps that characterize the works coming from Isong. But with the exception of the end sequences, they lack believability.
The action of Henshaw's xter - leaving her BF to Oma(Chinda) - is not so much in itself unrealistic, but the reason why she did it should have been provided for the audience. She can't just go from screaming the ceilings down about her fighting to the end to get her BF to voluntarily giving him away to her rival after she has gotten him back without some explanation as to what motivates that decision.
The same can be said of Larry(Elliot),who inexplicably walked away from Oma on the beach scene with the "Go to hell" line.I did not understand that part. One minute he is trying to convince, the next he suddenly gives up in hostile manner and then walks away! The next scene,we see him dining with Henshaw as if they were back together again! Then only to see him in the final scene on his knees begging!Aha!Confusing, very confusing.Whatever happened to the rich, spoilt daughter? She amicably gives up her BF?We were never told.Did Desmond loose his job?Nothing there too.
All in all,it was a classy homvie that is streets ahead of what i have been seeing from the EMG sector lately.Technically though,it never rises into the "MOVIE" league with bad sound and all the other technical hicups that are inherent of every homvies.
BTW,the Danielle Allen chic slightly resembles Rita Dominic in the face.Promising actress.Flows well.
Rating:- 4.5/10 :fing02:

To add to the list of unaswered questions, I would've love to know what happened with Bob's Xter. Was he fired? Did he start his own thing since he practically built the firm where he is or was? That'll have been interesting to know.

You know what? I actually watched this movie last night and I was impressed. In my opinion, i'll rate a 7/10.

If you noticed, Unlike most of our movies, the soundtracks were used at the right time.

The ladies played their roles so well but the one person I admired most was MONALISA CHINDA.... "nneoma" in the movie, I thought she was good and I believe she has a long way to go in Nollywood. Danielle acts a bit like my girl Dakore and I think she'll take Nollywood by storm!!

Now, I don't know if you all understood how the movie ended. If things seemed to be going on well between Desmond and Kate after all the drama, why did Kate reunite Desmond with Monalisa?[/B]

Ditto!@THE HIGHLIGHTED. But i dont know about the 7 rating sha o.

Danielle and Monalisa are too good to be true! They impressed me too much. Kate was just Kate! She's just good like that, she didnt do anything different in this movie, if anything at all, i can say she didnt act as well as she used to.

That Uche Jombo girl :eyes Im sorry but she want IT at all for me in this movie. She annoyed nonsense out of me! I wanted to :1087: :sport-smi real bad!
Desmond was his usual sef, and so was Bob Manuel.
Overall, big ups :fing02: to Fred Amata,Emem Isong and the other guy. I didnt like some parts of the movie, but good job overall!

FINALLY saw this movie last night....yea yea yea, i know i'm late but anyways, i saw it sha......

Most of my "sentiments" have been echoed by the likes of Ladi, Vince and peculiar and others about this movie.....I finished watching the movie, and felt more confused than ever....Most of my confusion stems from the audience not knowing what happens to the xters, why the had Desmond's xter going back and forth between one girl and the other, while he ends up proposing to the other girl!!!

But but but.....am sorrry ooooooooooooh (maybe its the bush girl in me) but what type of a name is CALVERT for a girl?????????????? :eyes

and is it me or did the actress that played Calvert did her part a bit too well?

And Bob manuel's accent..... help:

Ok, all in all, the movie to me, gets a 3.5/10.

Since Pa J didnt feature why wouldnt you give it 7/10?

They message is all what matters. Most of us career driven singles always put on the facade that there is no big deal having a partner. But deep down, its sucks when you are a guy and you cant find someone to cook you meal and kiss you goodnight and sucks when you are a gal and you cook and eat it all alone with no guy to comment on your good cooking.

I like all the cast. Bob Emmanuel tried with his dictions. There is no excess story or scenes.

In the end, Samathan didnt go back to Larry. She went to be a good girl, letting go, of Larry for Nneoma. As you can see, there was no audio in the last restaurant scene of Larry and Samantha. And have in mind that Samantha is a younger sister of Nneoma and Valerie friend (A friend we never see and not that we need to see her). Samantha also doesnt do 9-5 like the other two ladies. She is a fashion model and flair girl and thats why she has the time in hand to jump from one boyfriend to another and doesnt know the value of having a man. Samantha nevers show any sign of real love for men, she just likes to party and have fun. Even while she claim to be Larry girlfriend she still seeing other guys.
May be Kate should have switch role with Uche Jombo (Calvert) so we can really see that Samantha is younger to Nneoma and Valerie. But at same time, we dont want to see a girl as big as Kate, yelling Daddy at every situation with a boyfriend.

I saw it for like 7th time this evening. I watch it with friends. Well, the naive ones find the end a bit cheesy.

Merry Xmas.:biggrinsa

WELL!!!
I just finished watching this movie. (ok, so I’m 6 months later than everyone else)
And I’ll start off by saying I was highly impressed.
I loved the cast, but Bob Manuel, Bob, what are you doing to me? Let go of that accent, dude. Come on!
Anyway, the cast was excellent, the clothes/costumes were OUT OF THIS WORLD. They fit right, except for Bob Manuel, he needs to get someone to get him suits that actually fit right. He needs a new tailor or something.
Except for the rich spoilt girl, sometimes she had misses with her outfits.
A little sound problem here and there, but all in all, good.
Storyline was tight too, liked it, but the ending. Ah, here the movie fell to the same illness as other naija movies, the ending was rushed, sucked a little bit, and I wasn’t feeling all that slow motion thing.
The party scenes took way too much time.
I like that the movie explored two key issues:
Parents nagging daughters about marriage and the child abuse angle. Wish they’d spent more time on the child abuse angle though. That’s another subject that needs to be explored in our society. I think the writer did a good job, in portraying that even though the girl was a victim in this case, still, she had a lot to loose. No one would have come to her side, instead it was viewed as an embarrassment, and the rich girl (what the hell was her character’s name?) actually thought that this would be something bad for the girl. That’s the mentality that needs to be addressed. Instead of chasing down the stupid senator to cut his “thing” off, the poor girl is being persecuted.
I loved Sam’s character. I thought Kate did a wonderful job. She was perfect as the annoying lil brat that lived with two big girls.
Oh God! I wanted to beat Desmond. I’ve watched him in another film this past week and I am beginning to wonder what all the buzz is about him.
The two new comers, Nneoma and Valerie, abeg, what other movies have they been in? I thought they did wonderfully, portraying their characters, but seems to me like sometimes, Valerie was confused as to which accent she was supposed to use.
I thought the rich girl did good too, she had the right touch of arrogance, just wish she’d changed hand gestures. She threw up those hands the whole movie, come to think of it, so did the Valerie actress too.
I thought the plot was developed beautifully. Loved the way it all flowed, except I got lost with the whole argument with Larry and Nneoma, then, next thing he’s professing love, then next thing he’s chilling with Sam, and then Desmond and Valerie and the rich kid (damn what is her name?) angle…what the heck happened there? Val lost her job, I got that. Desmond? What was his fate after he broke off with the girl? And I’ve got to say, both guys did not do well with the proposal scene. Had these dumb looks on their faces, but I think it must have been the slow motion thing.
I have to say, I liked the dialogue for the most part, but there were still some misses. Sorry, can’t give specific examples right now, it’s 11pm and I’m exhausted.
I also think they could have cut off some time from the wedding picture taking scenes.
I actually liked that they didn’t show the rich girl’s mum, that would have been waste of film space. Other movies would have shown the mum, and given her some silly bit lines to recite, but Emem Isong, hats off to you. You are fast taking over from Tchidi in my book.
One more thing..why did they have Valerie repeat the whole monologue after she “thought” it? I mean, we heard it when she was thinking it, so why did she have to repeat it out loud?
I think we should have been shown why Samantha eventually agreed to hook them all up.
