Kai, you no like dis gal lai lai!....

Yes. lightning can strike once, even twice, but 4 times? You even proved my point, even good players like Roddick can't win two! All these one and done winners on one surface, they are lucky, but 4? On different surfaces? Haba e no easy na....

Wait Sharapova was not ranked #1 this year, was she?
No, Roddick's case is different, he plays on the men's tour; a place where you have to be seriously good to win a slam. The Ivanovic girl na one average person like that wey win the french open in 2008. My point is on the women's tour, any random anybody can go from qualifiers sef to winning the slam...it's sad sometimes. Someone with Roddick's talent on the female side will have multiple slams. Didn't you hear that recently one of the top male players in the players council or something was protesting that the women should get paid less due to the fact that they only play 3 sets and they are not as competitive...

Yea, Sharapova was number 1 after she won the French open, but lost points due to her loss at Wimbledon (she had points to defend), so she is now number 2.

I looked a the rankings and Nigeria doesn't have one player ranked.... Is there anything we are good at apart from football? Or do all our great athletes represent other countries?
Football kini? did we even play football this time around? Even the one thing we're good at, we got banned for that because of corruption. Please Bros Sola, just close this thread abeg, because my people don't get it....WE SUCK!!!! Started with Basketball, we were disgraced, then we talked other sports, we sucked, now someone is saying tennis, People, please!! Let it go. this is the beginning of fixing our problem is admit that we have a problem and we must ask for help and then be open to working the plan towards change. People just admit it, WE SUCK!!!

This is true! Him and Murray were unfortunate to play in the Federer, Nadal, Djokovic time....

Haven't y'all heard that "D'tigers essentially laid down and died". I believe Nigerian sports (all the different disciplines included) has laid down and died. So make dem carry go. I am not even checking for them at all again. If dem want make dem no even go Rio 2016...na their own.

And the way I see it...Serena Williams is an Igbo gal jor! yels!

I'm going out on a limb and putting some of the blame on naija church culture...yes I said it. All these world class athletes train about 5 hours a day 7 days a week...naija athlete prob spend most of that time praying for a medal. Naija athletes performed much better in 96...but todays naija no wan work for anything: bad roads...pray for it, plane crash..pray for it, corrupt politicians...pray for it.....

My sista you have something!

I remember posting here that I once saw Nigerian U21 play Argentina, when Messi was on that team and the Nigerian players were saying, when interviewed, that God will provide, that we will win in the name of Jesus... While the Argentinian players were like "We have to watch our for #4, he is fast", "We have pay attention to the the midfielders" etc, etc....

Argentina beat us shege! Did we expect God to come and play for us? Does he not love people from Argentina?...... Na wa....

One of my friends on facebook posted an update asking something like if "this was the end for all the Nigerian athletes at the Olympics, or was there anyone of them that hadn't performed yet that she could look out for"...I replied saying that I wouldn't even bother searching for them if I was her, cos I highly doubt we have any hopes of getting any medals. One of her friends felt it necessary to berate me saying that "the way I am thinking is not a good way of thinking, that I should be positive" I just couldn't stop thinking about how Nigerians never cease to amaze me with their pseudo-spiritual, Dr. Phil inspired mumbo-jumbo...the exchange went on for a bit, but I eventually told her that this is the problem we have as Nigerians; prayers and positive thinking gets us nowhere, are the other countries not praying and thinking positively too in addition to their intense preparations, whose prayer will God answer? Serious countries will start to prepare for Rio 2016 right after London, while Naija will start their own in February of 2016 with intense fasting and prayer sessions. I even read on Bellanaija that they assembled the Basketball team a month prior, like seriously? Who does that? So the spankings we are receiving is only to be expected all factors considered.

ERRRMM esekoose me O, Even Dr. Phil would've said 'how's that working for you'? Actually, I heard they started 3 mos earlier, but anything under 2 years is a joke. These athletes live and breathe this stuff 24/7. It is engrained into their fiber. Right now, China is winning, you know why? When someone shows promise, parents send them away to camp from when they're 7yrs old, and families say 'he/she is no longer our child, he/she serves a greater purpose and no longer belongs to us anymore'. I read that somewhere and I said, wow, no wonder these Chinese folks are kicking tail everywhere. And I don't think they pray, at least not to the same God. Faith without works is DEAD, just like TEAM NAIJA!! Abegi!!
