Choi!!! You finished the film ooo. I liked it though. Yes so many co-incidental occurrences that seemed a bit unrealistic but then I thought that was what the director was aiming at. The very flaccid moments in life that can be somewhat feel very surreal. Some of the acting was weak (especially Ali Nuhu). I had seen but load of crap and I was just excited to see something that felt different.

And the other issues you had with it, all i can say is ROLFLMAO!!!!

Since you didn't like CNW, that leaves the only enjoyable movie to be THE MEETING? Sad stuff!!

No worries my broda. I've also seen many bad films that I totally liked because of the excitement. Most of the films I see at the premiere or a festival I tend to like - even if they are bad. Shebi, na me like 'Last Flight' pass everyone... not yet brought myself to watch it a 2nd time because I won't like it.
But when I can sit at home and chop plantain chips with 'alacrity & impunity' lol the film I dey watch go hard impress pass chips nah!

I dey fear watch 'Phone Swap' again because I loved it but it's really as silly as this one abi?

Yes 'The Meeting' can be watched a thousand times and still be that good.
Seen HOAYS twice now, it will never be 'great' to me but it's not bad. It still didn't blow me away, same as when I first saw it last yr. Still pref 'Mother Of George' (even though it's a slow film).

I think the problem with HOAYS is, it lacked soul. It has everything. Amazing performances, amazing cinematography, set design, costumes and a decent score. It just lacked soul and that made it hard to connect despite all it's accomplishment.

I was hugely intimidated by the sheer brilliance of Mother of George. To be able to take an overdone story like that and make it into something like that....

The only issue I had was I found it hard to believe the lead female was yoruba because of her bad yoruba but boy, she knocked me off with her performance so I forgave that even. HOAYS and MOG are in different classes though. And I won't even knock one over for one. Both great movies in their own rights.

You've hit the nail on the head 'HOAYS lacked soul'. It is understandable that good speakers of the Yoruba language will have an issue with the lead female in MOG; the height of mine is a few sentences here and there so it didn't really bother me. I agree with you on it being an all round intimidating film by the sheer brilliance - it truly is a master class in filmmaking.

I saw it at BFI last year. Maybe it's showing in the States because our brothers & sisters are seeing it. I shouldn't say but I also know, very sadly, that it is 'out there' online.
