The world of glam is such a fickle one. Fake smiles, airs and graces, as someone mentioned earlier...you are as good as your last movie. How can an actor ensure longevity?

To be continually getting the best and juiciest scripts and coupled with consistent high performance on screen.
To be continually looking good so as not to loose his/her appeal to his/her fans wherever they are.
    That should do it.

Look at those who have continued to draw the crowd in more evolved movie industries. Amitabh Bachan in Bollywood, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, etc in Hollywood. It is a balancing act. You have to deicde what sort of longevity you prefer. Pop corn longevity like Tom Cruise's (which earns all the good bucks and publicity) or inspired work longevity like Meryl Streep's (that earns you just the so-so bucks and occasional media attention, but you have all the respect and awards)?

Once you decide, you now begin to walk that path, picking your movies for yourself and the audience you crave. Oh, you also pick the directors you work with carefully. The rest is in the hands of the gods.

CONTROVERSY!!! Its the only way forward, your fame seems to be dying, show up with a young man to a party, look at Demi Moore who remembered her b4 she went with Ashton Kusher.

Look at R.Kelly, I hated him till I saw his sex tapes, and now I have his latest 2 cds. Its the way of the world, they'll throw u a bone when you seem down and out

    Interesting!

Mamarita...that is so true yet such a shame. Bad publicity can sometimes bring temporary longevity. Then they crawl back into their holes when there is no work. That's why to some degree, no news is bad news because whatever coverage a celebrity gets, that celebrity suddenly comes back into the public light.

Sola...very true. Longevity is what you make it. Showbusiness is so versatile a word...it encompasses anything. Whilst we prefer to be respected we also would like to be seen to be busy doing different things which keeps us in the public eye. Media coverage helps even if it's not to our liking.

Vince: Actors are not always offered the best scripts. The best way to turn that around is to perform a good act. Looking good is certainly paramount because it gets people talking and that brings acclaim! A good publicist certainly helps..in fact it's almost everything in showbizz.

A sensible actor will always have a contingency of some sort. The career span of an actor can be quite short-lived, bearing this in mind some prefer to latch on to like professions such as singing (even if the song sounds woolly), appear in ads, open up restaurants, do charity work, shops etc....anything that will eventually bring them back into the public arena!

For those unfortunate ones that haven't invested properly..when they aren't given any films offers..they end up going undercover which can mean anything as we know!!

Not neccessarily, mamarita.Just because it works for R.Kelly does not mean it will work for celebs in naija. These are two different societies,my dear. What counts there, does not have to in naija.
